Arethusa VPN Review (2024) - Surprisingly Better than Others

Our Score: 8.0/10
Ranked 39th out of 305 VPNs
Emma Browne Published on 9th February 2024 Cybersecurity Researcher

Arethusa was established in the year 2010 to provide excellent service for VPN clients. It operates from its headquarters in Seychelles and has server locations in 7 countries namely the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, Luxembourg, United States, and Ukraine. Its one of the good ones when it comes to speed, reliability, and bandwidth. With the provision of unlimited bandwidth and speed, users can enjoy unrestricted access to their favorite sites with excellent VPN service.

Unfortunately, Arethusa can't compete with bigger, better VPNs. For example, it isn't big enough to reliably unblock Netflix. For a similar price, you can access all Netflix regions with ExpressVPN. ExpressVPN has 3,000+ secure and speed-optimized servers along with their unrivaled, industry-leading privacy tools.

Arethusa supports PPTP and OpenVPN 2.3 (AES 256 bits, RSA 4096 bits) protocols with an encryption up to 2048 bits so you can be confident of accessing blocked sites as well as a fast Internet connection for your online streaming activities.
One of the strongest points of Arethusa is the price of their product. With just €5 per month and $15 for three months respectively, you can gain access to all the useful features of the software. These features include five simultaneous logins, (a primary login plus four sub-logins) with a traffic quota of 1000 GB per month with the presence of IPv4 and IPv6 semi-dynamic options. As with most VPN software, there is an option of a free trial included with a bandwidth of 1GB for a month with the server located in Ukraine. This option should be enough for anybody willing to go for the app to ascertain how effective the service is.

However, one discouraging point to note about Arethusa is that a newbie may have a hard time with the installation and configuration of the product because of the limited documentation and absence of a manual on how to easily enjoy the product. The developers must have had experienced users market in mind during the course of developing the app.

One more thing you every user and intending users should be wary of is that Arethusa keeps user logs. So you should know that your email address, real IP, the reference number of your payments, your password, your VPN IP and other details are being logged and stored. This point, I believe, will discourage a lot of experienced VPN users from going for this product because it makes them vulnerable to hackers and other third party agencies. It has been stated clearly on their website, though, that users will be duly informed before any of these details will be revealed to third parties.

Arethusa should address their customer support option as an area that requires improvement. Currently, their customer support system solely provides a forum, which both inexperienced and seasoned users may consider highly unsatisfactory.

Rather than wait for Arethusa to improve the service, invest in a premium provider that offers incredible value, best-in-class features, and can unblock streaming sites like Netflix. For this, we recommend our #1 choice, ExpressVPN.
