DigibitVPN Review 2024 - Keep This in Mind Before Buying

Our Score: 6.0/10
Ranked 204th out of 305 VPNs
Kristina Perunicic Updated on 28th November 2023 Managing Editor

If you are looking for a basic VPN that offers you an additional layer of security when you are surfing the web, then DigibitVPN should certainly be on your short list.

However, we were disappointed to learn that Digibit cannot access Netflix. If you want uninterrupted access to your favorite shows from anywhere in the world, try a premium Service like CyberGhost instead. It's easy to use with one-click set-ups, and it can bypass Netflix's geo-restrictions too.

DigibitVPN is an extremely cheap VPN that is registered under the jurisdiction of the British Virgin Islands. This privacy-friendly location, along with the company’s zero traffic logging and clear privacy policy, helps to safeguard your data and identity online.

While the company does not collect information on your traffic, it does collect some personal information at signup. The provider also stores data on connection dates, server choices, and the total amount of data transferred daily. This information is kept solely for generic analysis, performance testing, and debugging.

DigibitVPN secures your connection with AES-256-CBC encryption and uses the OpenVPN protocol with a choice of TCP or UDP connections. It does not offer other tunneling protocols, port choices, or a kill switch.

Users can opt to launch the VPN automatically when they start Windows, access help from the connection window, and choose from around 130 servers across nine countries.

The service supports P2P activities and the speeds on most servers are suitable for torrenting as well as streaming. Speeds do vary depending on where you connect and the number of servers available in that location, however. There was a noticeable speed drop, for example, when we connected to Australia, where there is only one DigibitVPN server.

While the service states that it is designed for streaming and can bypass geoblocks, it actually only accesses a limited number of streaming content providers. To reach the BBC iPlayer, you must use designated iPlayer servers, but there are plenty of those.

A major concern revolves around DigibitVPN's inability to bypass geoblocks on any regional variant of Netflix at present. The company recognizes this issue and is actively striving to find a resolution.

Overall, DigibitVPN allows you to securely and anonymously access the internet and to torrent with confidence. Its network is limited to about 130 servers in nine countries, but it hosts all its own servers and doesn’t use any third-party hardware or software, which increases your privacy.

Unfortunately, it can't access Netflix. If you're looking for a VPN for streaming, take a look at our best VPNs for Netflix instead.

The wait time for customer support needs improvement, along with the accessibility of the website, availability of quality information, and the number of configurable features.

However, DigibitVPN’s low cost, secure encryption, reliability, and speed mean that it provides great value for users looking for a general-purpose VPN.

Digibit is easy to install and just as easy to use. To get started, sign up to Digibit, complete your profile information, and choose your payment method.

Once you’ve completed this process, open your welcome email and click on the download link for your operating system. After downloading the app, run the installation wizard to complete the setup.

Your login details will also be contained within the email. You need to enter them under the Account tab of the Settings button. Then all you need to do is choose your server and connect. If required, you can install TAP-Windows by clicking on Install Driver.

Pricing

Monthly
$ 3.05 / month per month

DigibitVPN offers a monthly subscription package paid through PayPal. It does not offer multiple subscription lengths or any other payment options.

The service is one of the cheapest VPNs available without making a long-term commitment. It provides exceptional value for your money if you are looking for a basic, reliable VPN with good speeds and secure, stable connections.

DigibitVPN does not offer a money-back guarantee, however. The provider will consider refund requests only if you can show that you were unable to use the service, or the service was unavailable, and that you made an effort to contact user support.

Canceling the service is simple using the client area dashboard. However, you are responsible for canceling recurring payments on PayPal; DigibitVPN does not do this for you.

It’s also worth considering that while you can use the VPN on six different devices simultaneously per license, all usage must be by the person who purchased the VPN. Unlike with other providers, you can’t set the VPN up for another member of your family to use. However, it’s unclear how this rule could actually be enforced.

Reliability & Support

6.8

The service was reliable during testing, with no dropped connections or difficulty connecting to servers. We were assigned a different IP address each time we connected, and the location shown matched the location of our chosen server.

We were able to access a host of different sites and to stream content from a limited number of providers, including the BBC iPlayer. DigibitVPN can’t access Netflix (any country), however. The company is aware of this issue and currently working to resolve it.

Support available on the Digibit website comprises a FAQ page, blog articles, and downloadable apps for different operating systems. While the blog articles are interesting and contain useful information, the FAQs are very limited.

Furthermore, the FAQ page also serves the company’s hosting business, so you need to wade through unrelated questions to find what you are looking for.

Customer service can be reached through live chat, a contact form, and a ticket system. The company also has a social media presence, but requests that technical and support issues not be raised on these pages to ensure users’ privacy.

In spite of the multiple channels available, contacting customer support is not an easy task.

The contact form was not functioning when we tried to submit questions prior to testing the service. We encountered an unspecific error message all five times that we tried to submit our query.

The Live Chat button does not always appear on the website. It became visible to us only after around 30 minutes of exploring. Once Live Chat does appear, you need to provide an email address and agree to the provider’s privacy policy before you can type your questions.

The next hurdle is the wait time. It took five hours for us to receive an initial response, and another four to get answers to our questions. However, once received, the detailed response was exceptionally helpful and answered our questions completely.

Response times are better with the ticket system – we received a helpful response within four hours. However, you can only use the ticket system if you already have an account, so you need to sign up for the service before you can report technical issues or submit queries via this more efficient method.

The Bottom Line

Reliable but limited service with questionable customer support

DigibitVPN is a good basic VPN, but it is missing some of the features needed to make it a great VPN. Customer support is hard to reach and slow in responding, basic security features like a kill switch are missing, and configurable settings are limited. However, in light of the very low cost of the service, all of these flaws must be balanced with its good speeds, reliable connections, strong levels of encryption, and clear privacy and data use policies.

If you're looking for the best all-rounder, try ExpressVPN instead. Not only will you benefit from the same great speeds, connections, and encryption, but you'll also have all the added extras - including a kill switch, impressive unblocking capabilities, and 24/7 customer support.

Customer service is lousy

Been trying to get an issue fixed for weeks, if they reacted any slower they would be going backward. Cut and paste responses most of the time with days in between replies. Good job I'm not holding my breath.

I’ve paid for TheVPN..Three days still waiting for an email? Contacted them No reply’s.. Il purchase elsewhere!!

I purchased the VPN on the website, Via PayPal. I have received no emails regarding the purchase after three days, I have emailed numerous times during the day. Still received nothing...I would like to comment on how good it is... But it looks like I'll never receive the information to log on to the app!! They can keep my £2.50... I will try another VPN...I Bet you won’t post this even though it’s truthful.. with thanks
