OctaneVPN Review 2024 — Keep This in Mind Before Buying

Our Score: 7.6/10
Ranked 85th out of 305 VPNs
Guy Fawkes Updated on 18th January 2024 Anonymous Cybersecurity Experts

OctaneVPN operates as two separate companies with the marketing company based in the United States and a network operations company that is based out of a privacy friendly foreign country. Their network contains 142 servers spread over 44 countries and offers the OpenVPN, PPTP, and L2TP with IPSec protocols. You will get 256-bit encryption with the OpenVPN offering and 128 bit with the other two protocols. They secure your DNS queries with their unfiltered servers which are under their control.

Upon booting their gateways load over an encrypted network from their main node and work from encrypted ramdisk. If the server is removed from the location, the ram disk vanishes upon powering down. Their network allows file sharing traffic, and there are no data or bandwidth limits so you can use BitTorrent or any other P2P software over your connection. You can also use their service to watch streaming media from sites that require you to have a local IP address, or you can simply browse the web.

You are also protected from DMCA or similar complaints by the split structure of the company. The network company has no customer data, and their marketing company is US-based. The marketing company would respond to an order issued by a court of competent jurisdiction, and since the marketing business doesn’t have admittance to any data connected to network actions or user goings-on, there is little information that a court order could disclose.

OctaneVPN offers a bespoke application available for download on Windows or Mac, which simplifies the connection process. The app ensures DNS and IP leak protection by restricting all pathways from your device to only the VPN route when the VPN connection is active. In addition, they offer setup guides for iOS and Android devices, Linux-based systems, as well as instructions for utilizing their VPN with routers and Network-Attached Storage (NAS) devices.

Payment can be made by Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies such as credit/debit card, Darkcoin, and PayPal. If you want to remain anonymous with your payments, you can use DashCoin, Bitcoin, or a disposable credit card or gift card. Payment methods such as PayPal or credit cards are linked to an account token so that renewal payments can be processed and credited. All plans include all protocols, unlimited data, unlimited speed, access to all servers, free client software, and 5 simultaneous connections.

You can purchase a subscription by the day, month, quarterly, 6 months, or year.

Like premium vendors such as ExpressVPN, to protect your privacy, OctaneVPN doesn't keep any server logs. Although it can't do everything that a premium vendor can, including unblock Netflix. If you're after a vendor that can, check out our top picks

I've been with Octane some 5 years now after signing up under a special. Very transparent for a novice.

It's been fun logging in to different ports over the world. Some online services do block me especially around Europe. Customer service is good. Software works. Some European places block me but there is always an alternative it seems.

Reliable and great service

Always easy to connect to, let you define a pool of connection and will connect to the best ip in the route. I let it run for 24 hour at a time and doesn't disconnect.

User since 2015 and still works great...

Service has been pretty reliable since I have been using it. Always available and ready when I need it.. The windows client software is easy to use. Just select a location, click connect and you're good to go.. Very few times when a location wouldn't connect. Just picked another and was OK. Customer service is pretty responsive as well. Took care of the problems in a timely fashion.. And I am happy with what I am paying as well.. A few times the connections have been a little slow, but seems to work itself out in time..
