Obtaining PatronVPN apps is no easy matter. To get the desktop clients for Mac OS and Windows, you need to email customer support for a download link. Worse, the apps for mobile devices are not currently available at all due to bugs. According to customer support, the apps will be offered again on Google Play and the App Store when the bugs are fixed.
Once we finally obtained a desktop app, we had no difficulty installing the app and connecting to a PatronVPN server. However, that minimal level of functionality is about the extent of PatronVPN’s positives. The array of 100+ servers spans only about 25 countries, and connection speeds are nothing special.
PatronVPN also offers very few customization options. OpenVPN is the only available tunneling protocol, and while we are certainly glad that the provider chose the most secure protocol for its lone option, we always like to see at least one other option for advanced users with specific needs.
And despite the promises we received from customer support, PatronVPN cannot access Netflix. Our traffic was immediately recognized as encrypted, triggering the site’s VPN blocks.
We also could not verify the provider’s claim that the VPN works in China. Regardless, if you are heading to China, we strongly recommend choosing a more reputable VPN provider like ExpressVPN.
Considering that we were compelled to reach out to customer support on multiple occasions to understand why we couldn't download the mobile apps, we find ourselves questioning the credibility of various other assertions made by PatronVPN service representatives.
We were told, for instance, that you can torrent safely on all network servers, which implies very high levels of security. Since the mobile apps have known bugs, it would be quite a leap of faith to trust PatronVPN for your torrenting needs. We also received contradictory information from various support sources regarding whether all apps include a kill switch.
In short, our experience with PatronVPN leads us to strongly recommend that you look for other options. There are plenty of similarly priced VPNs that provide better customer service, more reliable connections, and a wider range of valuable features to secure your connection and keep you anonymous online.

Historically, PatronVPN apps for mobile devices were available via the App Store and Google Play. However, as of writing, the apps have been deleted from those sites. Customer service has informed us that the apps were pulled because of bugs and will be a available again once the bugs are fixed – not a great sign.
PatronVPN is also available for Windows and Mac OS. To install the desktop apps, you need to email customer support to get the download link.
Once you have the link, downloading the PatronVPN software is relatively straightforward. Simply open the file and click to run the application. If you are running Windows, then Defender may ask you to reconsider – also not a great sign. If you feel brave enough to continue, click Run Anyway.
Once you’ve launched the app, getting started with PatronVPN is relatively easy. Use the login details that were included in the email to access your software. Then choose your server location and click Connect.

According to customer service representatives, PatronVPN is currently offering three subscription packages: monthly, yearly, and lifetime. For reasons discussed below, we would advise against committing to a lifetime plan with this provider.
The monthly and yearly prices are similar to those of several highly rated VPNs, but PatronVPN fails to offer a comparable level of service to those providers. Therefore, the subscriptions don’t give you good value for your money.
The vendor does offer a 7-day free trial, available by contacting customer service. We were also informed that plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee, but the vendor has a poor customer service record, so attempting to take use the guarantee would be risky.
The provider accepts multiple forms of payment, but does not accept cryptocurrency like Bitcoin.
Reliability & Support

PatronVPN support can be contacted either via the provider’s Facebook page or via email. We sent several inquiries via both channels, waiting up to two days for replies. Support agents were courteous, but the answers they gave us were very short and provided the bare minimum amount of information.
For example, when we inquired about the Android app, we were simply told that the app has been pulled from the Google Play store because of bugs, and that it would be available again sometime. The agent did not offer any details on the nature of the bugs or the timeline for fixing them.
With regard to reliability, PatronVPN’s apps do seem to reliably connect you to your chosen server on the network. However, the VPN has limited functionality. In particular, we had no success bypassing the geo-restrictions on Netflix, even though customer support told us that the VPN does unblock both Netflix and Hulu.
