Shimo VPN Review 2024 - Keep This in Mind Before Buying

Our Score: 8.0/10
Ranked 37th out of 305 VPNs

ShimoVPN is a VPN service provider exclusive to macOS only. Developed by Feingeist with its headquarter located in Berlin, Germany; ShimoVPN is committed to providing its users with a user-friendly VPN software with high security standards. Shimo supports PPTP VPN on macOS Sierra, something that is impossible on Apple's built-in VPN client.

It can unblock Netflix, but remember, only if you're a macOS user. For greater compatibility and access to any Netflix library, check out our best VPNs for Netflix.

In addition, it accommodates all accessible VPN protocols such as OpenVPN, Nortel, CiscoVPN, AnyConnect, IPSec, SSH, and even PPTP/L2TP connections. This versatility allows its users to opt for their most favored protocol from an extensive array of options.

The developers of this service have gone a very long way to making sure that this product is one of the best available. One of the strongest features of SHIMO VPN is its high-quality encryption and a top level security. This is a feature that most users look for in any VPN service provider. Shimo provides other extra features like account search and categorization into groups to easily handle a large number of VPN accounts at the same time.

With Shimo VPN, you are not restricted to one single VPN connection at a time. You can connect to up to three or more VPN endpoints at the same time and use them concurrently. This unique feature makes it one of the most suitable ones for businesses and experienced users on Mac OS.

For the pricing plans, you can sign up for a free trial to be sure of what you are going for, or you can just go ahead and purchase it for $49. Even though Shimo VPN is considered to be a little expensive, with its great user interface and good options, it might just be worth the bucks. So if you are looking to get a VPN software that’s up to the task on a Mac OS, Shimo VPN might just be it for you. But if you're on another device, we strongly suggest you check out our review of the most highly rated VPNs to help you decide which premium vendor is for you.

Worse VPN client ever

Shimo does not work properly with Cisco SSL protocol. Support does not help at all. Big Sur support is limited. App crashes from time to time. After disconnecting from the VPN you need to reset your network settings to make your connection work again.

Good flexible client, but don't expect tech support!!

As the subject says - the client is good and flexible, but don't expect any tech support on anything they don't have documented on their help wiki. I have reached out to tech support a number of times, and they either do not reply or reply back with "we can't help you" type of answers. Here is my most recent exchange related to a question around their implementation of open connect vpn...I asked if their newest version supported the gap in functionality and their reply was "go check it yourself". I did, BTW, and it doesn't. On Apr 8, 2020, at 2:56 PM, Shimo Support wrote: Hi Chris, the later is not possible. For the first question you can test yourself using the Shimo 5 trial. Best regards, Mark

Shimo VPN SSL claim misleading, ONLY supports Cisco.

Purchased Shimo VPN client due to its claims. But found when connecting to one particular VPN server, the SSL is limited to CISCO and will not connect to an SSL certified Microsoft VPN Gateway. Problem is I have not found another option for Mac OSX, Apple appears to a little lacking when it comes to supporting secure VPN access, yes I know they support OpenVPN, that is not the point.
