TunnelBear and SurfEasy are two closely matched VPNs in terms of their capabilities. However, if you take a look under the bonnet of these VPNs and you'll quickly discover some important differences which can have a big impact on the end-user experience. TunnelBear has plans with unlimited simultaneous device connections while SurfEasy VPN lets you use it on 5 devices at a time. On the other hand, SurfEasy VPN has some of the most affordable prices of any VPN, particularly for month-to-month subscribers, while TunnelBear offers a forever free plan with limited features. One thing that they have in common is that they’re both based in Canada, a member country of the 5 Eyes Alliance. However, they make up for it with strict no-logs policies and robust security features, like kill switches, 256-bit encryption, and secure VPN protocols.

TunnelBear is one of the most beginner-friendly VPNs, offering a solid free version. Despite its adorable design, it’s also renowned for its security and privacy features. But can you truly rely on this lighthearted VPN to protect you the way the best providers can? After extensive tests, I can confirm that TunnelBear is an excellent VPN with great potential. It’s straightforward to use, d...

    DANGEROUS for CANADIANS

I live in the GTA, everything was fine "until" I installed TunnelBear on one of my 7 devices, now I ca... n no longer watch any USA TV stations on line on any of my other 6 devices, this company is scum, they hid something in there that disabled all my other devices unless I buy their VPN, well, not going to buy their garbage, can't believe how much it slowed my device, I would rather wipe all my drives than give TunnelBear one cent!More

Even though it’s owned by the very popular Norton company, SurfEasy isn’t a VPN many people know about. Now that its free tier is no longer available, is it still a VPN worth trying? After all my tests, I do not recommend SurfEasy VPN. While its cheap plans may seem attractive, it doesn't offer much value. It has servers in less than half the locations most VPNs offer, weak device compatibili...

Been using for over a year with no issues

It works well on my Android phones. I've had no issues with speed, dropped connections, etc. What I di... d find interesting with this pages review is that they recommend NordVPN over SE because "it's more trustworthy", yet Nord was hacked recently. So in the end, no VPN could be safe.More

    NO EMAIL REPLYS

NO REPLIES to my emails. Sent THREE separate emails asking for assistance to activate a second USB br... owser VPN stick I purchased over 6 to 7 years ago. Unfortunately, I only activated 1 of the 2 USB sticks so I am probably going to be left holding the bag. (NOTE: They currently do not sell this USB stick but instead use an app). I will give them one more chance to reply but I am not holding my breath.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

Both VPNs won the same number of categories, so it’s by no means an easy victory for TunnelBear. What seals the deal in its favor is the fact that it’s available on Android, allowing you to put your unlimited device license to good use. It also has a superior server network, which gives you more options to try and improve your speeds or access specific international websites.

    Best VPN for Torrents

SurfEasy VPN provides a number of features that make your life easier while torrenting. It has all the necessary privacy and security credentials, as well as an ad and tracker blocker. The app will even suggest the best “Torrenting Optimized” servers for you to use based on your location. SurfEasy is also fast enough to download torrents reliably.

    Best VPN for Windows

TunnelBear’s Windows app is its most powerful and can compete with those of many top VPNs. For example, it’s the only app that features both IKEv2 and TCP/UDP. The fun design and visual sever map make the VPN a joy to use. Plus, you can always use the Chrome or Firefox browser extensions if you prefer them over the app.

    Best VPN for Android

As SurfEasy VPN’s Android app isn’t even available on the Google Play Store anymore, it’s no surprise TunnelBear wins this round. TunnelBear offers an excellent Android app with a kill switch, stealth mode, and split tunneling. It even comes with the same intuitive map-based interface as well as a handy desktop widget to connect to the VPN in just a couple of taps.

    Best VPN for Mac

This is another no-brainer win for TunnelBear. We just can’t get enough of TunnelBear’s fun, map-based interface on its desktop apps. It still comes with the GhostBear and SplitBear features as well as the ability to use OpenVPN over TCP for a more reliable connection. While it doesn’t support any other protocols, it’s still our preferred choice over SurfEasy.

    Best VPN for iOS

SurfEasy wins this category. Its iOS app is extremely easy-to-use, with a straightforward design and a map-like dashboard for selecting servers. It will help keep you secure while on the go with built-in public Wi-Fi protection, tracker blocking, and the same 256-bit bank-grade encryption.

    Best VPN for USA

This is an easy win for TunnelBear, thanks to it having the larger server network between the two. While both VPNs only have one server location in the US, TunnelBear has more total servers in more locations globally. This gives it the edge to users in the US who want to use international servers for gaming, streaming, or torrenting.

    The Bottom Line

Whilst both services have their own advantages and disadvantages, TunnelBear just edges past SurfEasy when looking at the overall benefits. While features like a USB stick-powered private browser with Wi-Fi protection are interesting, it’s not something many will use. On the other hand, TunnelBear’s unlimited simultaneous device connections and wide device support are something that offers real value. It also just feels like it offers more polished apps with a better overall user experience. Plus, it’s still more affordable than the majority of other VPNs, so it will be easy on your pocket.
