On the surface, NordVPN looks like a really impressive service. It claims to have a huge global server network, the ability to unblock tons of streaming platforms, and iron-clad security and privacy features. Plus, you can get it all for just $3.49/month. That all sounds great, but is there a catch? To find out, I did an in-depth analysis of NordVPN. I tested its speeds and how well it performs...

Best documentation was easy to understand

I came from Surfshark which never worked correctly. I had to run from the browser extension with supp... ort telling me it was my network that was causing the problem. That was rubbish. I set Nord up and had it running in a short time from the documentation. I only had to ask support about accessing more servers than just the one I saw. Great product.More

Average service, some nice features, rubbish support

Basic features work really well. Basically. I liked the feature that when Nord crashes (as it seems to...  do monthly) it will shut other apps so they aren't exposed. My subscription is based in Australia. Found downloads peak at about 1-1.5Mb/s, which is ok as long as you aren't playing online games. Don't go for the frills (though hard not to when they gamify them). I canceled my subscription because I added the Kill switch and then MFA. Nek Minnit I can't even log in. No way to remove the Kill switch without logging in. Uninstalled, reinstalled no joy. Went to the help page, and it redirected me to up my subscription as the only solution. No chatbot where I am. and I don't have an email app so couldn't email help. After a couple of hours of mucking around. Gave up and went to a competitor. Note: if I hadn't played with the security settings, I would still be with Nord. But if I can't log in, it's a dead service to me.More

CyberGhost is one of the most affordable VPNs on the market — you can get a subscription for as low as $2.19/month. I sometimes assume that price indicates quality, but with VPNs, I've been proven wrong before. So I wanted to see whether CyberGhost can really deliver at such a low price. I did a deep dive into CyberGhost’s privacy policy and security measures to determine whether it’s secu...

    Mostly Works

So far, the basic functions seem to be working fine. What isn't working is that the program will not ... automatically reconnect my computer to the internet after CG has "blocked" a connection. I don't know why it is blocking the connection nor does CG explain exactly what happened (or didn't happen). Instead, I get two choices (which can't remember what they are) in order to reconnect to the internet. I don't understand what the choices are nor do I understand why I have to choose. IMHO, the core functionality should be that CG is constantly trying to reconnect me to the internet and I shouldn't have to tell it to do that. It's like stopping at a stop light and having to wait for someone to give me permission to go again when the light turns green; the default state should simply be "Go".More

Literally has not worked at all. The "support" is utterly useless. Tried all their "solutions" and no ... difference. Now they won't give me a refund. I paid $90 for a product that hasn't worked. Avoid this product like the plague.More

    Best VPN by category

NordVPN's abundant servers, fast speeds, and clean interface are perfect for users who want the ultimate all-around VPN. CyberGhost isn't far behind, and beginners may even prefer it, thanks to servers optimized for specific online activities. However, while CyberGhost puts a significant emphasis on ease of use, NordVPN's advanced security features make it the best VPN — after all, the primary purpose of a VPN is to keep you safe online.

Both VPNs are excellent for downloading torrents, as they allow P2P sharing. Although CyberGhost has torrenting-optimized servers, NordVPN wins by providing slightly faster connection speeds, especially over long distances.

NordVPN has an intuitive Windows interface full of valuable features. However, CyberGhost wins here by offering Privacy Guard. It lets you control the data you share with Microsoft through its automatic invasive functionalities, boosting your privacy to a higher level.

CyberGhost offers Android users a data compression option to increase connection speeds. However, some features (like the IKEv2 protocol) are missing from the Android app. NordVPN wins with over 50 million downloads on Google Play, probably due to its lightning-fast speeds with NordLynx and a 7-day free trial for Android.

CyberGhost offers a lot to Mac users compared to many other VPNs, but some of its features (e.g. OpenVPN) are missing. NordVPN, on the other hand, gives you a more complete experience, along with the same high speeds and spotless security.

CyberGhost’s iOS app includes access to its awesome dedicated servers but doesn’t support the OpenVPN protocol. It also doesn’t offer split tunneling, ad blocking, and data compression. NordVPN retains its robust security features, including an integrated Dark Web Monitor to protect your iOS device against data breaches, so it's my top recommendation for iOS.

Both VPNs have over a thousand servers in the US, with NordVPN covering 17 US locations. CyberGhost comes close with servers in 11 and unblocks various streaming sites, Netflix US included. NordVPN loses this comparison because it lately has issues accessing Netflix US. However, it easily unblocks Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, and over 400 other streaming platforms.

    The Bottom Line

Although CyberGhost is a great all-around VPN that’s easy to use — perfect for beginners who want top-shelf performance, NordVPN is the better VPN service (albeit by a small margin). It’s faster, has more servers, and offers many additional security options. These include obfuscated servers for bypassing VPN firewalls and Threat Protection for blocking malware, trackers, and ads.

Time to decide which one is best for you

Is NordVPN better than CyberGhost VPN?

What should I keep in mind when choosing between NordVPN and CyberGhost VPN?

When choosing a VPN, you want to pay close attention to its number of servers, overall speed score, pricing, and the number of simultaneous device connections it offers. While some VPNs provide a flawless online experience, others will really slow you down.

If you’re ready to commit, then NordVPN may be perfect for you due to its performance during the tests .

Is NordVPN faster than CyberGhost VPN?

Yes, NordVPN is faster than CyberGhost VPN. Since your VPN is your computer’s main connection to the internet, you need to use a service that won’t slow you down by more than 20%.

If speeds are important to you, then I recommend you take a look at ExpressVPN. It’s the fastest service out there, provides unlimited bandwidth, and you won’t experience any slowdowns even when you connect to the other side of the planet. You can try it out risk-free. It’s backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can get a full refund if you don’t like it.
