CyberGhost and NordVPN are two of the leading VPN services on the market, and for good reason. There’s a lot that contributes to the success and appeal of these providers — but which one takes the edge?

Both VPNs have the capacity, ease of use, and features to satisfy any and all demands — from solid double encryption to unblocking Netflix or dealing with heavy censorship, like the Great Firewall of China. That said, some unique advantages become apparent once you delve a bit deeper into the bells and whistles.

CyberGhost’s innovative profile-based interface saves time and doesn’t require expert knowledge. NordVPN is big on server features — its network of over 4,500 servers in 60+ countries includes options like Double VPN, Onion over VPN, and even Static IP.

Both VPNs come well-equipped, with a kill switch and DNS leak protection, as well as strict and exhaustive privacy policies. Customer support is also a tie — both VPNs have helpful agents and live chat, however NordVPN is a bit more responsive.

As for refunds, both CyberGhost and NordVPN have effortless 30-day money-back guarantees. It really is down to the details here — check out our comparisons by category below if you want to know when to use one over the other.

It’s not often that a VPN has cheap prices coupled with an excellent set of features. Yet, when my team and I looked at what NordVPN has to offer, this is exactly what we found. It offers a huge global network of servers, unblocks hundreds of streaming platforms, and has iron-clad security and privacy features — and you can get it all for just $3.29/month. I had to wonder what the catch was. ...

Best documentation was easy to understand

I came from Surfshark which never worked correctly. I had to run from the browser extension with supp... ort telling me it was my network that was causing the problem. That was rubbish. I set Nord up and had it running in a short time from the documentation. I only had to ask support about accessing more servers than just the one I saw. Great product.More

Average service, some nice features, rubbish support

Basic features work really well. Basically. I liked the feature that when Nord crashes (as it seems to...  do monthly) it will shut other apps so they aren't exposed. My subscription is based in Australia. Found downloads peak at about 1-1.5Mb/s, which is ok as long as you aren't playing online games. Don't go for the frills (though hard not to when they gamify them). I canceled my subscription because I added the Kill switch and then MFA. Nek Minnit I can't even log in. No way to remove the Kill switch without logging in. Uninstalled, reinstalled no joy. Went to the help page, and it redirected me to up my subscription as the only solution. No chatbot where I am. and I don't have an email app so couldn't email help. After a couple of hours of mucking around. Gave up and went to a competitor. Note: if I hadn't played with the security settings, I would still be with Nord. But if I can't log in, it's a dead service to me.More

CyberGhost is one of the most affordable VPNs on the market — you can get a subscription for as low as $2.29/month. I sometimes assume that price indicates quality, but with VPNs, I've been proven wrong before. So I wanted to see whether CyberGhost can really deliver at such a low price. I did a deep dive into CyberGhost’s privacy policy and security measures to determine whether it’s secu...

VPN Leaks

I have used Cyberghost for 3 years and experienced 4 identity leaks in that time when I thought I was ... protected. Since then (about a year ago) I only use the "optimized for P2P" servers and have not had a problem. The kill switch seems to work as intended. I can't understand how the leaks happened because the kill switch was enabled all the time.More

Not functioning on my laptop & support is useless

Despite numerous back-and-forth emails with the support, they haven't managed to get it to work or eve... n install it on one of my computers. It worked ok on the machines. They never acknowledged their software was buggy, instead, they tried to convince me I have an issue with the laptop. They also refused to provide a refund. Absolutely unprofessional.More

Best VPNs by category

NordVPN’s excellent servers, fast speeds, and clean interface are the perfect combination for users who want the ultimate all-around VPN. CyberGhost isn’t far behind, and beginners may even prefer it thanks to the handy profiles

Both VPNs are excellent for downloading torrents, as they allow P2P on their servers. The big difference comes with uploading — neither VPN offers port forwarding.

NordVPN offers superb performance on its native Windows client, thanks to an intuitive interface full of useful features. CyberGhost comes very close, but those that like a manual setup won’t have as many settings to tinker with.

NordVPN works just as well on Android, with excellent encryption and impressive unblocking potential. CyberGhost retains its amazing profiles even on mobile, but performance is slightly behind.

CyberGhost offers a lot to Mac users compared to many other VPNs, but some of its Windows features are missing. NordVPN, on the other hand, gives you a more complete experience, along with the same high speeds and spotless security.

CyberGhost recently updated its iOS app, introducing the awesome profile-based interface and a bunch of other extras. You also benefit from the seven simultaneous connections for all your Apple devices — if that isn’t a deal-breaker for you, NordVPN is a great alternative with support for up to six devices.

NordVPN’s gargantuan server network gives users all they need to unblock US-only websites and services like Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, and more. CyberGhost also does the job, but it has less servers to choose from — both within the United States and outside.

The Bottom Line

CyberGhost and NordVPN are two providers that are very close to each other — whether it’s pricing, performance, features, or support. Although both VPNs are fast and reliable, the small details can make a huge difference. CyberGhost is a great all-around VPN that’s easy to use — perfect for beginners who want top-shelf performance, but may not necessarily have the skill to set things up. It’s also ideal for iOS enthusiasts and avid torrent uploaders. Still, NordVPN offers more servers and is the better VPN service (albeit by a small margin) in almost every aspect.
