When you find two VPNs as competitively priced as Surfshark and Le VPN, choosing between them can be hard. So which is better? I tested both services and the answer is complicated. Both Surfshark and Le VPN have their strengths and weaknesses.

Let's start with their strengths. Both VPNs are fast; not the fastest I've tested, but fast enough for good quality streaming and even gaming.

They also offer good security measures, like military-grade encryption and state-of-the-art protocols (I was pleased to see both support the super-fast WireGuard).

Plus, both VPNs have great server networks. Although, Surfshark offers more servers (3,200, to be precise), and in more countries (100 compared to Le VPN's 77).

Perhaps the most attractive thing about both VPNs is that they're each really affordable, too. They're priced similarly, with long-term subscriptions giving you the biggest savings (though Surfshark works out a little less expensive).

However, I found plenty of flaws during testing. Surfshark and Le VPN may have some great features but you get what you pay for. Neither service unblocked every streaming platform I tested. Worse, one of these VPNs is far less safe to use than I'd hoped. Read on to find which VPN is the best.

With VPNs, you tend to get what you pay for. So when I saw Surfshark’s low prices, I was skeptical about its rave reviews. To see if it could actually live up to these claims, I tested every aspect of Surfshark, including its speeds, security features, unblocking abilities, network reliability, and device compatibility. I also took a closer look at Surfshark’s privacy policy to verify its ...

    Fast, reliable and unlimited

This VPN is fast and reliable. It has a lot of servers in different countries and can be used in an un... limited amount of devices (it supports Linux, which is something very important for me). The software and app get updated regularly: note that I experienced some bugs with the auto-connect feature on Android that have been solved since then. With this competitive pricing, I would definitely recommend it. IMPORTANT NOTE: I am not including the customer support in this review, because I never had to use it. If I use it in the future, I will update this review with my experience. I recommend you to see other reviews that include it if it is important for you.More

    A Mixed Bag...

There's much good to say about Surfshark. Pricing, especially when they're running a 'special', is gre... at. Speeds for most of their servers are quite good. The app works well (I mostly use it on a desktop), but has some bugs that never seem to be addressed. One is that the connection protocol has a habit of changing on its own out of nowhere, even though I have it set to use a particular protocol. Since it changes to a protocol where I can't connect this is a bit of a pain. Reported this, (it's going on for months) but never gets fixed. Also with the app, sometimes it will put up a notice within the app that you have a connection problem but it's not clear if you are or are not still protected when this occurs. The "notice" may or may not be seen by you unless you have the app on top of everything else you're running at the time. It's a bit disturbing when you see this, have no clue how long the 'notice' was up, and are wondering if you've been surfing protected or not! Another issue is even more concerning; I hit a lot of websites that won't allow you to proceed while connected to this VPN! The site immediately recognizes you're masking your IP and won't let you use the site. I guess you're still anonymous, which is good, but what good is it when they know you're on a VPN and won't allow you access? Not sure if this is something with Surfshark's system, or just that there are so many people on this VPN that the sites see IP addresses coming up too frequently and know you're masking. Have been on 3 other VPN's over the last 7 years, have not seen this difficulty before, not really happy about it since if a site blocks you while being on a VPN it doesn't do you much good. So, it's kind of a mixed bag. I signed up on a 2-year deal, not sure I'll continue with them when it expires. There's a lot of promise with Surfshark, but they need to fix and flesh out parts of their service.More

Le VPN greatly advocates internet freedom, participating in many anti-censorship initiatives. But that doesn't necessarily make it one of the best VPNs. I thoroughly tested all its features to find out if it really lives up to its reputation. Ultimately, Le VPN is a quality service but isn't as good as the industry's best. It has easy-to-use apps, strong security features, reliable customer suppo...

Do not pay this company!! Scammer!

I purchased a 2 year subscription and service stop working for more than 24h and 2 days later still no... t working despite their bot trying to fix. A bot customer service. Then, I asked for a refund. You know what happened when that I asked for a refund!!! They deleted my account. They deleted my tickets. They block me. They stop my service. Basically they scam me of $118 and then stop providing service and cut off all communication services! What !! I tried to open tickets 3 times and they deleted all of those even though the bot AI agreed with me! Stay far away from this company. I am filed a fraud charge with my credit company now. All I want is a refund and they just do this!!More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

Surfshark is better. Overall, it offers more features for less money. It's also safer to use than Le VPN. I found some seriously worrying clauses in Le VPN's privacy policy that show it logs your IP address — which could be used to identify you and your online activity. So I would always choose Surfshark instead.

    Best VPN for Torrents

Surfshark is better. Not only does it have P2P-optimized servers, but it has a better no-logs policy — so you can torrent safely and privately. I also recorded great upload and download speeds with Surfshark, which makes for smooth and fast torrenting.

    Best VPN for Windows

Surfshark is better, but mostly because Le VPN's Windows app is so bad. When I tested Le VPN on my PC, it didn't work at all and nearly crashed my whole system. In comparsion, Surfshark's Windows app is stress-free and easy to use.

    Best VPN for Android

Surfshark is better. Its developers designed the Android app specifically for the platform, which means it has lots of bonus Android-only features like GPS spoofing and an OS-specific kill switch.

    Best VPN for Mac

Surfshark is better because all its desktop apps (including Mac) have lots of useful additional features. These include Camouflage mode, which masks your VPN traffic so you can get around VPN blocks, and MultiHop servers, which give you extra online privacy against trackers and snoops.

    Best VPN for iOS

Surfshark is better because it gives you unlimited simultaneous connections and supports nearly every iOS. That means you can use it on your iPhone, iPad, and any other Apple device you like.

    Best VPN for USA

Surfshark is better. It's got 600+ across 25+ American locations (Le VPN only covers 11 US locations). So you can easily unblock US accounts like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and HBO Max.

    The Bottom Line

Surfshark and Le VPN may cost about the same, but I think Surfshark gives you a lot more for your money. Its useful bonus features provide lots of flexibility in how you use the VPN, as well as excellent security and online privacy. In comparison, Le VPN's shady logging policy makes me reluctant to recommend it — despite its adequate server network and good speeds.

However, if you want a huge server network, fantastic speeds, and watertight privacy measures, I would actually go for ExpressVPN over either of these 2 services. Plus, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

ExpressVPN helped me unblock streaming platforms where Surfshark let me down. It's also the fastest and most secure service I've tested. No privacy worries here!
