If you're looking for a simple, affordable VPN for unblocking streaming sites, Surfshark and Tuxler both have tempting offerings.

Both VPNs are affordable. Surfshark has some of the most reasonable priced plans and offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. However, you can use Tuxler completely free (but it's slow); the paid version gives you better speeds but has no refund policy.

Each one is pretty good at unblocking, too. Tuxler unblocks some sites like HBO Max, though it struggles with Netflix US and BBC iPlayer. Surfshark can access nearly every streaming platform , but I couldn't access Sling TV.

When it comes to server numbers, their networks are also of comparable sizes. Tuxler has 3,000 servers in 92 countries, while Surfshark covers 100 countries with 3,200 servers.

However, the two services differ when it comes to protecting your privacy. Though they both use 256-bit AES encryption (the highest level), Surfshark is more secure and thus my preferred choice.

With VPNs, you tend to get what you pay for. So when I saw Surfshark’s super low prices (you can get it for just $2.30/month), I was a bit skeptical about its rave reviews. To find out if it actually lives up to these claims, I tested every single aspect of Surfshark, including speeds, security features, unblocking abilities, network reliability, and device compatibility. I also took a closer...

Tuxler is a free service that assigns you a residential IP address to mask the fact you are using a proxy. That means no one will notice you are using an anonymity service. A residential IP address is simply an IP associated with a home address instead of a business. This makes Tuxler ideal for any home user who wants to unblock access to a service such as Netflix. It is reasonably priced and...

    For me, the best VPN.

I Cant understand this review. I have been using this VPN for 3 years and I think that this is the bes... t VPN because using this VPN you can access EVERY site. For example. I couldn't access the bet365 site using another VPN. The second very important and crucial thing is that nobody can find out that you are using a VPN! Because of residential addresses. Other VPNs are using their own IP and when You access sites, owners can check that You are using a VPN. Tuxler is exceptional.More

    Nice but horribly slow streaming.

Tuxler did help me access localized content but the streaming was painfully slow. I was wondering why ... this problem arose but thanks to this content on your site and the webpage:, I know that it wasn't due to my PC but Tuxler VPN itself. Thanks for this!More

    Best VPN by category

Surfshark is better overall because it's faster, more reliable, and much safer to use. It can unblock nearly every streaming service and protects your data with high-end security measures and a strict no-logs policy.

Surfshark is better because it automatically connects you to a P2P-optimized server any time you launch your torrenting client. The autoconnect feature works with uTorrent, Bittorrent, Transmission, and more. You also get fast speeds for quick downloads and top-tier privacy measures for torrenting safely.

Surfshark is better because its Windows app comes with a range of useful features including split tunneling, which lets you choose the traffic you route through the VPN. It also supports all devices using Windows 7, 8, and 10 with an easy-to-use native app

Surfshark is better because its Android app features a native kill switch designed especially to work with Android software. The app also has a GPS spoofing function that lets you use your chosen VPN location to mask your GPS location on your Android device.

Surfshark is better because it supports every macOS from Sierra 10.2 up (including High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, and Monterey). Its Mac app even comes with an exclusive 7-day free trial so you can try it without risking your money.

Surfshark is better because its iOS app has native widget support and works with all iPhones and iPads on 10.3.3 and higher. That makes it compatible with the every iPhone from the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 12 ProMax — plus the iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro.

Surfshark is better because its network covers over 20 different locations in the US (that's 600+ US servers). That gets you access to a range of US sites and services including Netflix US, HBO Max, ESPN, and Hulu.

    The Bottom Line

Surfshark is the clear winner in my eyes. Tuxler relies on borrowing customer IP addresses and using your devices as servers, which is a big risk to your privacy and safety. It's also unreliable on speed, so streaming is unsatisfying even if you can unblock your subscription services. Meanwhile, Surfshark is more reliable and safer to use. Alongside industry-standard security measures, it offers a whole bunch of additional privacy and performance features like split tunneling, MultiHop servers, Camouflage Mode, and a built-in ad blocker.

That all being said, Surfshark still isn't my go-to VPN for speed. If you want the fastest VPN speeds, ExpressVPNI recommend going for ExpressVPN. It's also better at bypassing geoblocks with a much bigger server network.
