HMA and ExpressVPN are two highly rated VPN providers known for very large server networks and a wide range of attractive security features. Both networks deliver good connection speeds, but ExpressVPN is truly exceptional in this area, offering one of the fastest services available on the VPN market. Both VPNs offer support for torrenting and can be relied upon for unblocking Netflix-US and many similar web services. These two VPNs also offer dedicated apps for all major platforms, including MacOS, Windows, iOS, and Android, and use 256-bit encryption across all these apps. Neither of these providers offers a free trial standard, but they both have a 30-day money-back guarantee in place for new subscribers. You can also expect 24/7 live chat support with either of these VPNs. While both VPNs have advanced leak protection in place, split tunneling is exclusive to ExpressVPN. Keep on reading to see how these VPNs compare over several categories – there’s a lot to consider before you decide which is better.

ExpressVPN is one of the most popular and trusted names in the industry. It’s known for being one of the safest, fastest VPNs around, so I wanted to see if it can live up to these claims. It’s not the cheapest VPN, but it often offers discounts that make it a better value for the money. Other decent VPNs offer similar security features for much cheaper. So, do you really need to pay that muc...

    Great

I've been an ExpressVPN customer since 2017 and it's been great: quickly connects to a nearby server i... n the Wash DC region, embedded shortcuts to apps I want to use while using VPN, disconnects quickly, has the kill switch feature which is necessary these days, and has a fine mobile app which works well on my Android phones and tablets. However, I was just notified that the annual price is jumping from $99 to $117 upon the next renewal, so it's time to see how the others compare within VPN Mentor.More

    Ok, but expensive

Seems ok, but I wouldn't say it's worth $20AUD a month. That's steep if you live in a backwater like A... ustralia, where the currency is not valuable. Easy enough to set up - you don't need to be Einstein - but unless you're a tech nerd who can take a look under the bonnet, you'll just have to trust what they say about their product. It frequently drops out without the slightest warning, often when it's the only thing online at the time - despite fast and flawless fiber internet, rendering expression entirely useless UNLESS you have it sitting on your desktop where you can keep an eagle eye on it to actually see it when it drops out so you can kick it back into service again (it doesn't do it by itself), which seems to defeat its purpose, so I'm taking away 2 stars for that. Support is good and they do get back to you as fast as they can.More

HMA (formerly HideMyAss) is a relatively cheap VPN that claims to offer more server locations than anyone else. However, it has faced some serious controversies in the past. Is it a VPN that can keep you safe and anonymous online? To find out, I performed extensive tests on all its features and explored its updated privacy policy. I also checked out several connection issues customers have rep...

    Excellent value for money!

First, it's a full VPN. Very intuitive and easy app. Lots of connection options and without much loss ... of speed. The official website has the payment method in my local currency, with a localized value and thus leaving a fair value through the VPN. Thank VPNMentor for the product recommendation and targeted discount.More

Meanwhile, HMA also offers a dedicated Windows app that allows you to connect seamlessly to the provider’s entire network of servers in 190 countries.

    Best VPN for Android

The best things about ExpressVPN’s service for Android are the dedicate app’s advanced DNS leak protection and user-friendly interface. HMA offers its own Android app that includes a dedicated feature for streaming sports and other media content from your mobile device.

    Best VPN for Mac

MacOS users will enjoy using ExpressVPN’s dedicated app, which features a visually appealing interface and includes split tunneling and a kill switch. With HMA’s VPN app for Mac, you can expect a minimalist design, IPv6 leak protection, and support for multiple encryption protocols.

    Best VPN for iOS

ExpressVPN’s iOS app is highly intuitive and offers access to the provider’s entire network, along with a unique feature that allows you save your favorite server locations. It also includes protection from WebRTC and DNS leaks. HMA’s iOS app features a minimalist design and includes a kill switch, 256-bit encryption, and IPv6 leak protection.

    Best VPN for USA

When it comes to accessing American content from any location worldwide, our top pick is ExpressVPN. It stands out by providing dedicated servers that consistently unblock US Netflix and similar websites with impressive speed. HMA, on the other hand, also unlocks Netflix-US and goes the extra mile by offering a dedicated streaming feature along with a wide selection of optimized servers. However, it falls short in comparison to ExpressVPN's industry-leading speeds.

    The Bottom Line

These two VPNs are very similar in many respects, but ExpressVPN takes home the prize by offering a faster network, more advanced features like split tunneling, and more user-friendly apps across all platforms. Although HMA’s preconfigured profiles are extremely handy for VPN newcomers, ExpressVPN’s preset modes match their simplicity, and experienced users will find more customization possibilities with ExpressVPN. If you’re in need of a featured-packed VPN with an excellent track record for security, you can’t go wrong with ExpressVPN.
