ExpressVPN is a leading VPN option while Norton Secure VPN, formerly known as Norton WiFi Privacy, is a service best used for secure browsing. Both offer bank-grade encryption even on public wi-fi networks, as well as reliable streaming and identity protection. There are significant differences in the number of servers, customer support quality, and P2P capabilities. ExpressVPN is fast, has excellent streaming and gaming, and is very torrenting friendly, while Norton Secure VPN’s service does not support torrents. Norton Secure VPN does collect some anonymized data for its own research, but the company has a strict no-logs policy that won't collect your originating IP address. Both services are compatible with most major devices and operating systems, but ExpressVPN includes support for Linux as well as some TVs and game consoles. User reviews and reports also give ExpressVPN a slight edge when it comes to the speed of the service.

ExpressVPN is one of the most popular and trusted names in the industry. It’s known for being one of the safest, fastest VPNs around, so I wanted to see if it can live up to these claims. It’s not the cheapest VPN, but it often offers discounts that make it a better value for the money. Other decent VPNs offer similar security features for much cheaper. So, do you really need to pay that muc...

I've been an ExpressVPN customer since 2017 and it's been great: quickly connects to a nearby server i... n the Wash DC region, embedded shortcuts to apps I want to use while using VPN, disconnects quickly, has the kill switch feature which is necessary these days, and has a fine mobile app which works well on my Android phones and tablets. However, I was just notified that the annual price is jumping from $99 to $117 upon the next renewal, so it's time to see how the others compare within VPN Mentor.More

    Ok, but expensive

Seems ok, but I wouldn't say it's worth $20AUD a month. That's steep if you live in a backwater like A... ustralia, where the currency is not valuable. Easy enough to set up - you don't need to be Einstein - but unless you're a tech nerd who can take a look under the bonnet, you'll just have to trust what they say about their product. It frequently drops out without the slightest warning, often when it's the only thing online at the time - despite fast and flawless fiber internet, rendering expression entirely useless UNLESS you have it sitting on your desktop where you can keep an eagle eye on it to actually see it when it drops out so you can kick it back into service again (it doesn't do it by itself), which seems to defeat its purpose, so I'm taking away 2 stars for that. Support is good and they do get back to you as fast as they can.More

Norton is one of the biggest names in cybersecurity, and many Norton 360 packages include a VPN. Since its antivirus software is so popular, you might think you don’t need to look elsewhere for further protection. But can Norton really compete with the top VPNs? After testing all its features, I recommend trying Norton VPN if it comes with your 360 package. It can definitely keep you safe, b...

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

ExpressVPN is a speed leader for streaming in HD and UHD, plus it offers more than 3,000 servers in 105 countries, all of which support torrenting and P2P activities. Norton Secure VPN is a user-friendly service that is good for streaming (though not as good as ExpressVPN) and high-quality encryption at home or on public, unsecured Wi-Fi networks.

    Best VPN for Torrents

ExpressVPN really shines here because all servers allow torrenting and it has one of the fastest networks we’ve tested. Norton Secure VPN does not support torrenting and will automatically turn off when it detects active torrent traffic. A customer service agent told us Norton does not plan to change this in the future.

    Best VPN for Windows

The ExpressVPN Windows client is easy-to-use, offers DNS leak protection, military-grade encryption, and a kill switch. Norton Secure VPN for Windows builds well on the Norton security brand by offering great security, high-quality encryption of sensitive data, and a broad set of server locations.

    Best VPN for Android

The dedicated ExpressVPN Android app gives you access to the company’s fast servers around the globe and log prevention, but still hasn’t added a kill switch. Androids running 4.1 or later can use Norton Secure VPN's app. Users say it is fast, reliable, and doesn't drain your battery.

    Best VPN for Mac

ExpressVPN offers a very user-friendly Mac application, giving you access to its industry-leading security, tunneling, kill switch, and robust P2P support. Norton Secure VPN provides Mac users with high-quality encryption at an affordable rate and protects activities, except for torrents and P2P file sharing.

    Best VPN for iOS

ExpressVPN's dedicated iOS application is widely favored for secure browsing and safe connections while you use your region’s streaming services. Meanwhile, Norton Secure VPN functions effectively on iOS devices, facilitating easy location changes, providing privacy settings, and endorsing top-notch encryption alternatives.

    Best VPN for USA

ExpressVPN consistently works with Netflix, Hulu, and similar platforms, as attested to by users worldwide. Meanwhile, Norton Secure VPN provides speedy US connections that maintain data security and include ad-blocking capabilities. Our testing revealed that it could securely stream Netflix and Hulu, however, some users have reported difficulties with these services depending on the server they choose to use.

    The Bottom Line

While ExpressVPN presents a formidable option that is difficult to surpass, Norton Secure VPN falls short in several aspects. Both services provide exceptional security across all major platforms, but ExpressVPN gains an edge with its support for gaming consoles and Linux. Moreover, it offers thousands of additional servers, allowing torrenting on all of them. ExpressVPN's customer support is also notably more responsive. Crucially for some users, ExpressVPN does not log data and operates from the British Virgin Islands, ensuring privacy and security. Conversely, Norton Secure VPN is a US-based service that keeps minimal logs, potentially leading to the sharing of your private information with intelligence agencies. The absence of a kill switch further solidifies our preference for ExpressVPN.
