After comparing these VPNs, we have a winner!

Which VPN is better?

This is a closely contested comparison between IPVanish and TorGuard, two of the most established VPNs available today. They both offer a lot in terms of security, backing up 256-bit encryption with features like a kill switch and DNS leak protection. Both also provide dedicated apps for Windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS, and Android devices. And IPVanish and TorGuard are both very reliable for anonymous torrenting.

The two VPNs differ with regard to the features they offer, however. IPVanish has features like OpenVPN Scrambling and LAN blocking that are absent in TorGuard. On the other hand, WebRTC leak protection and SOCKS5 proxy are available in TorGuard and absent in IPVanish’s service. While it may appear that TorGuard has a larger VPN network with 3,000 servers in 55 countries, IPVanish’s roughly 1,000 servers span 60 countries. Find out which VPN is truly better across multiple categories below.

It’s been a number of years since IPVanish handed over data to the FBI (in 2016), and the company is still based in the not-so-privacy-friendly US. So, I wanted to make sure that IPVanish is as safe as it claims today. To find out, I carefully studied IPVanish’s privacy policy, researched its ownership, and tested its security features. I also looked into its speeds, streaming abilities, s...

Very, very satisfied

I am into my third year of using IPVanish. I am extremely happy with the speed, reliability, features ... and reliability. The fact that I have used it for this long without trying the competition speaks volumes. I am never going to try anything else because I am completely happy with what I have. Why risk it?More

Misleading, false advertising, don't honor guarantee. BEWARE

IP address and region not effectively blocked on most sites. Streaming sites do NOT work with their se... rvices, but they do not disclose that anywhere on their website. The support team had no idea in terms of technical knowledge. They claim that their 30-day guarantee is unconditional and there is no risk, but they have so many exclusions buried in their fine print that the average user would have huge difficulty finding. They advertise on many streaming how-to websites where they KNOW their services do not work. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. If I could give less than one star I would. SO unethical.More

Excellent Service

Love this VPN, I only use the iOS app and it's the fastest I have ever used - the options available in...  the desktop app are very nice compared to other simplistic plastic-looking apps, looks are not everything on a VPN.More

Slow connections

Like the review states, the connection speed is slow sometimes. I tried to contact support about it, b... ut they were rude and argumentative. There is just no need for this type of service these days, this is not a good VPN. I tried another VPN, it was much faster, so I guess it was not my ISP as they tried to claim.More

Best VPNs by category

IPVanish is present in more countries, has apps with more features, and is more user-friendly, making it a slightly more desirable VPN overall. However, TorGuard also provides a very secure service, with cross-platform compatibility and some very handy features.

IPVanish supports P2P file sharing, is compatible with the most popular torrenting clients, and has a strict no-logs policy. TorGuard also supports torrenting and uses a SOCKS5 proxy to keep you anonymous.

IPVanish for Windows is feature packed, with a kill switch, an OpenVPN scrambler, IPv6 leak protection, and LAN blocking. TorGuard also has a Windows app that strongly competes with an ad/malware blocker and access to 3,000 servers worldwide.

If you need a user-friendly Android VPN with a beautiful design, WiFi protection, and an OpenVPN scrambling feature that helps you bypass VPN blocks, IPVanish is the ideal choice. However, TorGuard’s Android app features access to servers with 100% uptime and similarly offers unlimited bandwidth.

IPVanish has a MacOS client with access to very fast servers and support for the OpenVPN, IPSec, L2TP, and iKEv2 VPN protocols. TorGuard closely competes with its own MacOS app that features DNS and WebRTC leak protection.

IPVanish is optimized for iOS devices and includes a unique 3D touch feature that allows you connect to the VPN simply through a long press on your home screen. TorGuard has an iOS app that’s less user-friendly but supports the IPSec/IKEv2 protocols.

IPVanish has dedicated US servers for bypassing geoblocks to access Netflix and similar American sites. Although TorGuard works well for unblocking many US websites, accessing US Netflix can be a hassle with its shared IPs. It does, however, offer dedicated IPs that can be used to reliably access Netflix at an additional cost.

The Bottom Line

While these two VPNs at first appear to offer nearly identical services, IPVanish edges out TorGuard to win this tough comparison. Its apps are more user-friendly and its network has servers in more locations worldwide. It offers a wide range of security protocols and allows up to 10 simultaneous connections, double the number allowed by TorGuard. Furthermore, its ability to easily reach geoblocked content at no additional cost helps to separate it from TorGuard in the end.

It’s worth noting, however, that IPVanish has had some issues in the past with regard to keeping logs while stating that it does not. Top VPNs like ExpressVPN and CyberGhost are known for keeping to their word and maintaining a strict no-logs policy always.
