TunnelBear and VPN Unlimited are two VPN service providers ranked about the same by users and experts. Both VPNs allow up to seven simultaneous connections per account, while VPN Unlimited offers a free trial. They also have dedicated apps for all major platforms and use strong encryption in all of them. Users interested in downloading torrents would have no problem using either of these VPN providers. Both providers also offer unlimited bandwidth and multiple VPN protocols including OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2.

These VPN providers are not entirely alike, however. For instance, VPN Unlimited offers 24/7 live chat support, which is absent in TunnelBear. VPN Unlimited also has about 400 servers in 70 countries, while TunnelBear maintains a smaller network of 20 servers in 20 countries. TunnelBear, however, offers security features like ad blocking, which VPN Unlimited does not provide. Keep on reading to see which VPN is truly better.

TunnelBear is one of the most beginner-friendly VPNs, offering a solid free version. Despite its adorable design, it’s also renowned for its security and privacy features. But can you truly rely on this lighthearted VPN to protect you the way the best providers can? After extensive tests, I can confirm that TunnelBear is an excellent VPN with great potential. It’s straightforward to use, d...

    DANGEROUS for CANADIANS

I live in the GTA, everything was fine "until" I installed TunnelBear on one of my 7 devices, now I ca... n no longer watch any USA TV stations on line on any of my other 6 devices, this company is scum, they hid something in there that disabled all my other devices unless I buy their VPN, well, not going to buy their garbage, can't believe how much it slowed my device, I would rather wipe all my drives than give TunnelBear one cent!More

VPN Unlimited comes across as a very capable VPN, with its main focus being optimized streaming performance. I wanted to see if it delivered on this promise, and to test whether its security, privacy, and customer service stacks up against the best VPNs in the industry. While it certainly delivered on some of its assertions, unfortunately, it fell short in some essential areas. For example, i...

    Very Happy with Lifetime license

I picked up a lifetime license and honestly, it's been "solid". It delivers at good speeds, no leaks ... so far have been detected. Offers a wide range of streaming options & Protocols. I've contacted customer service several times and received replies quickly. The servers for P2p are limited to three locations but are still very functional. I'd appreciate a public audit of how secure the service is but it seems none of this info is published for customers, or potential customers to view.More

    Definitely honey pot

Stay away, none of streaming services mentioned works, support may be courteous but will not solve pro... blems. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and others may work for a while but eventually your data will be sold to requesting parties and you get blocked.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

If you’re a speed junkie or interested in advanced security features, TunnelBear offers a very reliable and secure service with numerous high-speed servers. VPN Unlimited competes with a larger VPN network and a fairly reliable service with nicely priced subscription plans.

    Best VPN for Torrents

With unlimited bandwidth and very fast servers that support torrenting and other P2P activities, TunnelBear is our recommended choice for users interested in downloading torrents. Meanwhile, VPN Unlimited supports torrenting on a limited number of its servers and also offers unlimited bandwidth.

    Best VPN for Windows

TunnelBear offers a very simple Windows client that features Double VPN technology and a kill switch. VPN Unlimited also has a Windows app that features strong obfuscation technology, 256-bit encryption, and a neat user interface.

    Best VPN for Android

If you’re a VPN novice, TunnelBear offers an Android app with an emphasis on ease of use, with nice built-in features like WiFi protection. TunnelBear also allows use of its free limited version on its Android app. VPN Unlimited’s Android app has a bright, user-friendly design and helps users seamlessly defeat throttling and tracking.

    Best VPN for Mac

TunnelBear offers a robust MacOS app with premium features like ad blocking and tracking protection. VPN Unlimited also has a dedicated MacOS app with DNS leak protection and access to 24/7 live chat support.

    Best VPN for iOS

If you need to bypass VPN restrictions worldwide from your iOS device, TunnelBear offers a dedicated app featuring its GhostBear technology. It also only uses 256-bit encryption on its iOS app. VPN Unlimited competes with its own iOS app that lets users enjoy a 7-day free trial and access to hundreds of servers across 70+ countries.

    Best VPN for USA

Although TunnelBear is sometimes unable to bypass VPN blocks on US content, it provides a faster service for accessing and streaming content from the region. If you’re not so concerned about speed, VPN Unlimited has many US servers capable of bypassing blocks from US websites like Netflix and Hulu.

    The Bottom Line

With more security features and faster server speeds, TunnelBear is the clear winner in spite of the similarities between these VPNs. Its apps are easier to use and would suit VPN beginners well. Although TunnelBear lacks a live chat support channel, it actively responds to inquiries 24/7 daily. The provision of a free version is also a major advantage that TunnelBear has over VPN Unlimited, as it enables potential users to try out the service for as long as they want without any commitment. The main downside of TunnelBear is that it’s somewhat inconsistent in unblocking Netflix US.
