Mobile VPNs are an area that’s improving at a head-spinning rate, but a pristine app is still a rarity. Keepsafe VPN is aiming at exactly that, with three integral qualities to show for it: speed, security, and simplicity.
So, how does it perform?
Right off the bat, you’re either going to love or hate this mobile VPN. Keepsafe’s philosophy here is “minimalistic, but functional”. In our experience, this brought more positives than negatives, but also raised plenty of questions.
One of them concerns protocols and servers. Information on those is pretty much non-existent on Keepsafe’s website — and while the VPN performed splendidly, the omission of such important details is beyond us.
Keepsafe VPN currently has 16 locations to choose from, including the USA, the UK, and others. Speeds are impressive — often times, mobile VPNs end up being laggy due to poor optimization, but the app’s no-frills design does a fine job here. Users shouldn’t experience random disconnections or delays with this VPN.
One could say KeepsafeVPN is focused on security. On one hand, there is no kill switch or dedicated DNS leak protection; on the other, you get zero logging and really good WiFi-oriented features.
A prominent example is the auto-connect protection — every time you connect to an untrusted network, the VPN turns on to keep you secured. It’s great for those preferring a hands-off approach to data privacy, but advanced users may find the lack of configuration options frustrating.
Ease of use is definitely a notable feature of Keepsafe VPN. Even the app itself offers zero room for confusion. A clean interface with the essentials is all you’ll ever see.
Another great aspect of this VPN is its free trial. You can test the product with all its features for a whole week. Although you’ll have to subscribe, you can cancel at any time before the trial expires, without having to pay a single penny.
After getting to know the VPN, we thoroughly enjoyed its performance for what it is. However, there are a couple of drawbacks, like ads (from trusted sources) and somewhat poor server variety.
The former means that information, albeit miscellaneous, does get collected to some degree. The latter leads to unimpressive content unblocking — you won’t have any trouble with more lenient services, but don’t expect to get around Netflix and BBC iPlayer’s blocks.
