ExpressVPN is one of the most popular and trusted names in the industry. It’s known for being one of the safest, fastest VPNs around, so I wanted to see if it can live up to these claims. It’s not the cheapest VPN, but it often offers discounts that make it a better value for the money. Other decent VPNs offer similar security features for much cheaper. So, do you really need to pay that muc...

    Great

I've been an ExpressVPN customer since 2017 and it's been great: quickly connects to a nearby server i... n the Wash DC region, embedded shortcuts to apps I want to use while using VPN, disconnects quickly, has the kill switch feature which is necessary these days, and has a fine mobile app which works well on my Android phones and tablets. However, I was just notified that the annual price is jumping from $99 to $117 upon the next renewal, so it's time to see how the others compare within VPN Mentor.More

    Ok, but expensive

Seems ok, but I wouldn't say it's worth $20AUD a month. That's steep if you live in a backwater like A... ustralia, where the currency is not valuable. Easy enough to set up - you don't need to be Einstein - but unless you're a tech nerd who can take a look under the bonnet, you'll just have to trust what they say about their product. It frequently drops out without the slightest warning, often when it's the only thing online at the time - despite fast and flawless fiber internet, rendering expression entirely useless UNLESS you have it sitting on your desktop where you can keep an eagle eye on it to actually see it when it drops out so you can kick it back into service again (it doesn't do it by itself), which seems to defeat its purpose, so I'm taking away 2 stars for that. Support is good and they do get back to you as fast as they can.More

Astrill VPN is one of the most popular VPNs to use in China. But it's also one of the most expensive VPNs available and doesn't have a money-back guarantee. With such a big investment, is it still the best VPN for China, and should you try it if you're located elsewhere? After my tests, I can confirm it's an excellent VPN for China but falls short in other areas. It offers slow speeds and clunky a...

Been using it for a long time.. but have to go

I have been using Astrill for more than 10 years. Never had a problem. A couple of times I used the ch... at for support and it was excellent. However this is probably going to be my last year. Reason .... price. With the virus crisis I am unemployed and can not afford it. They do not give any kind of discount and keep raising the price year after year. I am not in China so I suspend it, I do not need all those features.More

    Poor service on my laptop

I live in China and use Astrill VPN on my phone and my laptop computer, which is ChromeOS. On my phon... e, it works fine and always connects. Unfortunately, it is very unpredictable on my computer, often takes a long time to connect to whichever server I use, and often disconnects shortly after I have finally had success. I am not sure how it works on other laptops, but if you have a Chromebook then I would avoid it.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

ExpressVPN’s much larger network of servers and provision of more premium features makes it a far better VPN overall. To top it off, these coupons make it the clear winner. AstrillVPN has a relatively smaller VPN network but still provides a reliable VPN service.

    Best VPN for Torrents

ExpressVPN has very fast dedicated servers for torrenting and places no bandwidth restrictions on P2P activities. AstrillVPN also supports torrenting and P2P file-transfers.

    Best VPN for Windows

ExpressVPN for Windows features VPN split tunneling which allows some of your device’s traffic to connect directly to the internet and others through the VPN. AstrillVPN also has a Windows app but without the VPN split tunneling feature.

    Best VPN for Android

The ExpressVPN Android app offers users very strong encryption and many additional features including a kill switch and DNS leak protection. AstrillVPN also has a dedicated app for Android which has access to all its servers.

    Best VPN for Mac

ExpressVPN for MacOS offers 256-bit AES encryption, DNS/IPv6 leak protection and offers a 30-day money-back guarantee for dissatisfied users. AstrillVPN also has a dedicated MacOS app but has no money-back guarantee.

    Best VPN for iOS

ExpressVPN for iOS devices has a very smooth and attractive user interface and is very easy to use even from China. AstrillVPN’s iOS app is less intuitive.

    Best VPN for USA

With more US servers and the ability to flawlessly bypass US geo-restrictions (including Netflix USA), ExpressVPN is a better VPN service for USA. AstrillVPN also works with Netflix but has less US based servers.

    The Bottom Line

The presence of many sophisticated features, a more extensive server network, and the general dependability of the service render ExpressVPN a superior VPN option. The servers of ExpressVPN are significantly quicker, and the addition of a 24/7 live chat support system only extends the multitude of reasons why it stands as not only a better VPN but also one of the finest options available in the market.
