ExpressVPN starts this competition strong as a well-respected VPN provider with the fastest service we’ve ever tested. AirVPN, on the other hand, is a popular and competitive provider with decent security infrastructure. ExpressVPN boasts a rare split-tunnelling feature and 2,000+ servers in 94 countries, while AirVPN competes with port forwarding and 223 servers in 20+ countries. You’ll only find a 24/7 live chat support and a 30-day money-back guarantee with ExpressVPN, as AirVPN only provides support via email and tickets and offers just a 3-day guarantee. Although both VPNs have DNS leak protection in place, ExpressVPN further protects your data by guarding against WebRTC and IPv6 leaks. Finally, while these two VPNs both offer apps for MacOS and Windows, only ExpressVPN has dedicated apps for mobile devices running Android or iOS. These two VPNs also share similarities, however, with both AirVPN and ExpressVPN offering a built-in DNS and access to dedicated IP addresses. Both VPNs also have a kill switch and 256-bit encryption to help you stay anonymous. If you’re interested in streaming or torrenting, both VPNs offer dedicated P2P and streaming servers. Ultimately, this comparison will be decided by the performance of each VPN across multiple categories.

ExpressVPN is one of the safest, fastest VPNs around, but the one drawback has always been the price. It often offers discounts that make it more affordable, but there are other decent VPNs offering similar security features for much cheaper. So, do you really need to pay so much for a VPN as good as ExpressVPN? To find the answer, I performed extensive tests on desktop and mobile devices run...

    Fantastic VPN

I have just started using ExpressVPN and I must say that I was very impressed by how user-friendly it ... was and how easy it was to set up on the different devices I have at home. I also tested their customer service with chat and they were quick to respond and I got good help. I can recommend this productMore

    Ok, but expensive

Seems ok, but I wouldn't say it's worth $20AUD a month. That's steep if you live in a backwater like A... ustralia, where the currency is not valuable. Easy enough to set up - you don't need to be Einstein - but unless you're a tech nerd who can take a look under the bonnet, you'll just have to trust what they say about their product. It frequently drops out without the slightest warning, often when it's the only thing online at the time - despite fast and flawless fiber internet, rendering expression entirely useless UNLESS you have it sitting on your desktop where you can keep an eagle eye on it to actually see it when it drops out so you can kick it back into service again (it doesn't do it by itself), which seems to defeat its purpose, so I'm taking away 2 stars for that. Support is good and they do get back to you as fast as they can.More

Founded in 2010, AirVPN started as a passion project for a group of individuals dedicated to internet privacy and net neutrality. It offers a large selection of 7 subscription plans, which makes it seem like it would be a good value for money. So, I was curious to test it out and see how it works with some of the popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, and oth...

I am AirVpn cusomers since 2015, and on my gear works remarkably well

I am working in the biggest country in Asia since 2006. I constantly use AirVpn on my MacBook Pro sinc... e 2015, and on my iPhone - iPad. I never had an issue, of any kind, with it, and I was quite amazed to read the article above. Lately, it is very difficult to get it properly run on iPhone and iPad, but this is more the result of this country where I live in restrictions than the vpn in itself. While in Hong Kong was still working fine, but as soon as I crossed the border troubles started. I will tweak that as soon as I will be out again. In the rest of the world, I never had issues. So I do not give the 5th star just because of my at present troubles using it on my iPhone and iPad. For the rest, I will stick with it.More

    Very bad performance

AirVPN is by far the slowest VPN I have ever used. Whichever protocol and/or server I have used, it di... dn't make any difference. My internet speed decreased by over 90%, download speed as well as upload speed. When you take a look at the AirVPN forum, you will notice loads of users are experiencing the same issue, for which AirVPN obviously has no solutions.More

    Best VPN by category

ExpressVPN makes it pretty hard for other VPNs to compete by making no compromises on security while offering an extremely fast service. Outstanding support and very easy-to-use apps place ExpressVPN firmly on the top shelf of VPNs. AirVPN can’t match ExpressVPN’s speed, but has a fairly reliable service with decent encryption and overall security.

We recommend ExpressVPN as a better VPN for torrenting, as it offers dedicated servers and support for popular BitTorrent clients to allow you to download torrents anonymously. It also offers excellent connection speeds for P2P file-sharing activities. AirVPN is also reliable for torrenting, with full support for P2P on its servers, without any restrictions.

If you own a PC, you’ll enjoy the user-friendly layout of ExpressVPN’s dedicated Windows app, along with the availability of features like split tunneling and advanced WebRTC leak protection. AirVPN also has a dedicated Windows app (called “Eddie,” don’t ask us why) that features a built-in DNS and strong encryption.

By providing an app with leak protection, an easy-to-use layout, and access to over 2,000 servers, ExpressVPN has created a very dependable service for Android devices. Meanwhile, AirVPN does not have an Android app but can be manually integrated using the OpenVPN app. The service does feature strong encryption and tracking protection.

ExpressVPN provides a powerful MacOS service via a dedicated app that gives you access to a kill switch, IPv6 leak protection, and split tunneling. AirVPN’s MacOS app features access to high-speed servers and features like DNS leak protection and port forwarding.

The best features of ExpressVPN’s iOS app are a beautiful layout that’s easy to understand, a dedicated streaming feature, and access to a superfast network of 2,000+ servers. Although you won’t find a dedicated iOS app from AirVPN, you can still configure the VPN using the universal OpenVPN app.

ExpressVPN is the ideal choice for accessing US content, as it provides dedicated high-speed US servers that seamlessly unblock top media platforms like Netflix-US from any part of the world. AirVPN also has a decent service for the US, as it uses a unique technology that allows you access US Netflix from any of its servers, even those outside the US.

    The Bottom Line

ExpressVPN’s across-the-board excellence when it comes speed, security, and accessing of geoblocked content makes it extremely difficult for other VPNs to compete. AirVPN has some attractive features, but ExpressVPN’s nearly perfect performance allows it to win this contest without a doubt. It providers more security features and has dedicated servers for every online purpose, including streaming and P2P. ExpressVPN’s far longer money-back guarantee and 24/7 live chat support turn this competition into a very one-sided affair. Most VPNs compromise in some areas, but ExpressVPN does not cut corners with any part of its service, which is why it’s one of our top-rated VPNs.

Time to decide which one is best for you
