These two well-known VPN services have the ability to bypass tough geoblocks from providers like Netflix and the BBC. In addition, you can download torrents and benefit from unlimited bandwidth with either of these providers. Both AirVPN and Windscribe use strong 256-bit encryption and support OpenVPN for the best security. You can expect a 3-day money-back guarantee from either provider. One of the most notable differences between these providers is that while Windscribe supports unlimited simultaneous connections, AirVPN allows a maximum of five connections per account. Windscribe also offers a free version of its service, whereas AirVPN only has a 3-day free trial. Another area where these two VPNs differ is in the provision of features like malware protection and ad blocking, which can only be found in Windscribe’s service. Furthermore, while Windscribe offers apps for all major mobile and desktop platforms, AirVPN does not have any dedicated mobile apps. Windscribe claims to offer top-notch encryption and access to tons of streaming platforms at a super low price, but are these claims accurate? With so many VPNs on the market offering similar perks but at a higher cost, these features seemed too good to be true. I had to find out for myself how good it really is. To see out how it performs, I thoroughly tested every aspect of the Windscribe ap...

I can not see the better performance of most other VPNs recommended anywhere on the web. I tested toda... y also Cyberghost and Express VPN and both did not really impress me much at all. My test is very easy to do, but most services will never succeed. I live in a country where you can just not watch Murdoch Mysteries, so the only option is either to find a tv recording service that can record it for you, or a VPN unblocking Netflix Canada (yes, I know how you can also just use CBC GEM . Did not know it before, and CBC GEM does not remember where you stopped watching, I did though not register, maybe it would then. ) Results were : -Windscribe shows Netflix Canada super fast, but for weird reasons will not even show Murdoch Mysteries at all in search, same with Cyberghost and sometimes also Express VPN The trick to circumvent was using just watch, set it to Canada and access Netflix via it. Then Windscribe and CBerghost will show the show, but NOT offer any episodes at all. Express VPN sometimes will show the episode, and rarely even stream one. So Express VPN is a bit better in that regard. IF I use Express VPN and Windscribe to unlock CBC Gem I see Windscribe is often faster for me or no noticeable differences. So, maybe Nord VPN or Express VPN is a tad better, but Windscribe is still a pretty good service. Final verdict: 4-5 stars Unlocking BBC Iplayer also worked flawlessly with Windscribe for me. Speed was excellent. I will however of course retest all based on prices, when the end of the year my subscription has to be renewed. Windscribe also changed a lot recently, like they now offer ram-based servers and much more.More

Founded in 2010, AirVPN started as a passion project for a group of individuals dedicated to internet privacy and net neutrality. It offers a large selection of 7 subscription plans, which makes it seem like it would be a good value for money. So, I was curious to test it out and see how it works with some of the popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, and oth...

Reliable and secure global VPN

Just signed up for 2 more years with AirVPN. Yes, there are other higher-rated services, but AirVPN al... ways works perfectly and is reasonably priced. I run it on Windows, Linux, and OSX, which does limit the contenders. The main usage is secure browsing when traveling and file transfer. I like that it uses OpenVPN and also that it is NOT at the top of the list. OpenVPN is very secure and with a lower rating is unlikely to be a hacking / DOS/government target. I could go on about great AirVPN is, but really, it would be like telling you how much I like my water or electricity utility. It just works and I don't think about it more than once every two years when I need to renew my subscription.More

Very bad performance

AirVPN is by far the slowest VPN I have ever used. Whichever protocol and/or server I have used, it di... dn't make any difference. My internet speed decreased by over 90%, download speed as well as upload speed. When you take a look at the AirVPN forum, you will notice loads of users are experiencing the same issue, for which AirVPN obviously has no solutions.More

Best VPNs by category

Windscribe offers a very secure VPN service with many practical features, decent speed, a free version, and budget-friendly subscription plans. AirVPN also offers a reliable service with a focus on security and bypassing geoblocks worldwide.

Windscribe is ideal for your torrenting and P2P needs, as it allows the activity on many of its servers and does not restrict bandwidth or speed. Meanwhile, AirVPN also supports torrenting with high speed servers, port forwarding for anonymity, and unlimited bandwidth.

By including malware and public wi-fi protection as part of its core service, Windscribe offers a very impressive app for PC users. Features like port forwarding, strong encryption, internal DNS, and support for OpenVPN are the main selling points of AirVPN’s dedicated Windows app.

Windscribe offers an Android app that’s easy to set up, with features like wi-fi protection and a kill switch to prevent unsecure connections. AirVPN, on the other hand, does not have a dedicated app for Android. It can be easily integrated into Android devices using the universal OpenVPN app available on the Play Store, but lacks a user-friendly interface.

Windscribe offers a comprehensive VPN app for MacOS, with a very user-friendly interface and security features like a built-in firewall, ad blocker, and malware protection. AirVPN’s MacOS app features a simple design, unlimited server switching, and support for multiple VPN protocols.

Windscribe’s iOS app has a smooth interface and offers features like tracking and wi-fi protection. One of the best things about this VPN is that it allows unlimited simultaneous connections, which is great if you’re an iOS user with multiple gadgets. AirVPN does not offer a dedicated iOS app but can be manually installed. Therefore, if you’re a VPN beginner, it may not be the ideal VPN for your iOS needs.

In addition to having multiple general-purpose US servers, Windscribe offers a unique Windflix connection option dedicated to unblocking Netflix and other hard-to-access streaming platforms. AirVPN also features reliable US servers and claims to use a smart technology that allows any of its servers to unblock Netflix.

The Bottom Line

By providing user-friendly apps for mobile platforms, more advanced security features, and more budget-friendly subscriptions, Windscribe claims a clear win in this comparison. Its 3-day money-back guarantee is extremely short for a premium VPN, but the availability of a free version partially compensates for the lack of a longer refund policy. Interestingly, in spite of its many strengths, Windscribe falls short of the highest tier of VPN services. If you’re looking for the highest speeds, widest network coverage, and most complete set of features, providers like NordVPN and CyberGhost offer topnotch services that outperform our winner here in every category.
