NordVPN starts this competition off strong as an exceptional VPN provider with over 5,200 servers in 62 countries. Astrill, on the other hand, is also a reliable VPN provider with 300+ servers in 63 countries. While NordVPN provides a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 7-day free trial, Astrilll does not have a money-back guarantee. However, Astrill does promise to give you a refund if you have not previously used the 7-day free trial and encounter technical difficulties during the first week after you subscribe. Both VPN providers offer dedicated streaming features, support for P2P, Onion over VPN, and a kill switch. You can also expect to find dedicated apps from both Astrill and NordVPN for every major platform, including Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS. However, if you’re after innovative features like ad blocking, Double VPN encryption, and a unique set of security tools, you’d be better off with NordVPN and its built-in CyberSec suite. In short, both VPNs offer attractive features. We’ve analyzed them side by side over multiple categories below to help you decide which VPN provider is better for you.

On the surface, NordVPN looks like a really impressive service. It claims to have a huge global server network, a speedy and reliable connection, and iron-clad security and privacy features. Plus, you can get it all for just $3.39/month. That all sounds great, but is there a catch? To find out, I did an in-depth analysis of NordVPN. I tested its speeds and how well it performs when you’re str...

I simply tested all VPNs looking for cutting-edge online security, I tested the most expensive and the...  most talked about virtual anonymity, none made me as happy as NordVPN, it stands out for several reasons that the much more expensive ones it doesn't have, its double encryption, dedicated IPs, onion VPN, makes NordVPN unique, with almost 6,000 servers around the world and 12 million customers like me, you can see that NordVPN is not playing games with its customers and their online security , it always innovates to keep you more secure day after day, for a fair price in the long term and without sacrificing the speed of your connection, recently Nord is developing a new VPN protocol, Nordlynx a version still under construction derived from the Wireguard protocol, if you want to have a VPN of last security that think how it will make you more secure in the next month NordVPN is the right choice, I am completely thankful for being a customer and for finding what to me is the perfect VPN.More

Average service, some nice features, rubbish support

Basic features work really well. Basically. I liked the feature that when Nord crashes (as it seems to...  do monthly) it will shut other apps so they aren't exposed. My subscription is based in Australia. Found downloads peak at about 1-1.5Mb/s, which is ok as long as you aren't playing online games. Don't go for the frills (though hard not to when they gamify them). I canceled my subscription because I added the Kill switch and then MFA. Nek Minnit I can't even log in. No way to remove the Kill switch without logging in. Uninstalled, reinstalled no joy. Went to the help page, and it redirected me to up my subscription as the only solution. No chatbot where I am. and I don't have an email app so couldn't email help. After a couple of hours of mucking around. Gave up and went to a competitor. Note: if I hadn't played with the security settings, I would still be with Nord. But if I can't log in, it's a dead service to me.More

Astrill VPN is one of the most popular VPNs to use in China. But it's also one of the most expensive VPNs available and doesn't have a money-back guarantee. With such a big investment, is it still the best VPN for China, and should you try it if you're located elsewhere? After my tests, I can confirm it's an excellent VPN for China but falls short in other areas. It offers slow speeds and clunky a...

Been using it for a long time.. but have to go

I have been using Astrill for more than 10 years. Never had a problem. A couple of times I used the ch... at for support and it was excellent. However this is probably going to be my last year. Reason .... price. With the virus crisis I am unemployed and can not afford it. They do not give any kind of discount and keep raising the price year after year. I am not in China so I suspend it, I do not need all those features.More

    Poor service on my laptop

I live in China and use Astrill VPN on my phone and my laptop computer, which is ChromeOS. On my phon... e, it works fine and always connects. Unfortunately, it is very unpredictable on my computer, often takes a long time to connect to whichever server I use, and often disconnects shortly after I have finally had success. I am not sure how it works on other laptops, but if you have a Chromebook then I would avoid it.More

    Best VPN Overall

NordVPN provides an exceptional VPN service, with more than 5,000 high-speed servers and an attractive lineup of unique features that keep you anonymous. It also has a proven ability to bypass very tough geo-restrictions. Astrill offers a smaller network but delivers a reliable VPN service, with many advanced security features and user-friendly apps.

    Best VPN for Torrents

NordVPN is a better VPN provider for downloading torrents without a trace, as it offers dedicated P2P servers and a favorable privacy policy. Astrill also provides dedicated servers for torrenting, but some sections of its privacy policy may not be P2P-friendly.

    Best VPN for Windows

By providing a dedicated app with Double VPN encryption, ad blocking, a SmartPlay feature for streaming, and Onion over VPN, NordVPN provides an industry-leading service for Windows. Astrill’s Windows app also includes Onion over VPN and additional security features like split tunneling and a kill switch.

    Best VPN for Android

With access to over 5,000 servers and an app that features a SmartPlay streaming feature, NordVPN in an ideal VPN provider for Android. Astrill VPN is also a reliable provider for Android, as it features a dedicated app with a smooth user interface and features like a kill switch and Stealth VPN.

    Best VPN for Mac

NordVPN delivers an exceptionally powerful service for MacOS, with access to its entire network of 5,000 servers in 60+ countries, along with a unique Cybersec security tool that includes ad blocking and Double VPN technology. Astrill also provides a reliable, dedicated VPN app for Mac with strong encryption. Its best feature is the Smart Mode option, which allows you decide which apps or traffic should connect via the VPN tunnel.

    Best VPN for iOS

Our top recommendation for VPN on iOS is NordVPN, which provides a dedicated app with a sleek interface, an automatic kill switch, and compatibility with various VPN protocols. In comparison, Astrill offers tough competition with its iOS app that incorporates split tunneling functionality and a Stealth VPN protocol.

    Best VPN for USA

NordVPN provides one of the fastest US services available, with about 2,000 US servers optimized for high speed. Its obfuscation technology allows you to bypass tough geoblocks from media platforms like US Netflix. In truth, there’s not much more you can ask from a VPN when it comes to accessing American content from anywhere worldwide. However, Astrill also provides a reliable service for the US that includes a dedicated streaming feature, with optimized servers for accessing websites like Netflix.

    The Bottom Line

NordVPN emerges as the undisputed champion in this comparison, thanks to its exceptional blend of security, user-friendliness, performance, and cost-effective pricing. Offering more advanced features and a network that is both larger and speedier than Astrill's, NordVPN demonstrates remarkable value, making it difficult to identify any shortcomings in the service. Additional advantages, such as a reliable money-back guarantee and the capacity to support six concurrent connections, further distinguish NordVPN in this matchup. In summary, it's no surprise that NordVPN has secured the position of our highest-rated VPN for two consecutive years.
