It’s a neck-and-neck race between champions: NordVPN and TorGuard, two of our top-rated VPN providers, are set to battle it out with only one winner in the end. Both VPNs employ solid encryption and advanced security features, including stealth modes, multi-protocol support, kill switches, and DNS leak protection. They are both torrent-friendly and compatible with all major operating systems and devices. In addition, both VPNs work well on restrictive networks. Digging deeper, however, we find minor differences between the two providers that have a major impact on the user experience. TorGuard has 3,000+ servers in 50+ countries, whereas NordVPN boasts a much larger network of 6,339+ servers in more than 111 countries. TorGuard also has some inconsistency in its connection speeds due to a centralized focus on security. NordVPN, on the other hand, perfectly balances tip-top security and fast speeds, thanks to optimized servers for torrenting and HD streaming. Although TorGuard keeps no use logs, its location in the surveillance-heavy USA raises significant privacy concerns. Based in privacy-friendly Panama, NordVPN offers a verified no-logs policy and complete anonymity protection. And while TorGuard offers cheaper plans, you’ll be charged additional fees if you want to safely stream exclusive content from your licensed region or use the VPN on 12 devices simultaneously. NordVPN yields better value for your money by offering full-featured packages with 10 simultaneous connections per account.

On the surface, NordVPN looks like a really impressive service. It claims to have a huge global server network, a speedy and reliable connection, and iron-clad security and privacy features. Plus, you can get it all for just $3.09/month. That all sounds great, but is there a catch? To find out, I did an in-depth analysis of NordVPN. I tested its speeds and how well it performs when you’re str...

    The Best of The Best

I simply tested all VPNs looking for cutting-edge online security, I tested the most expensive and the...  most talked about virtual anonymity, none made me as happy as NordVPN, it stands out for several reasons that the much more expensive ones it doesn't have, its double encryption, dedicated IPs, onion VPN, makes NordVPN unique, with almost 6,000 servers around the world and 12 million customers like me, you can see that NordVPN is not playing games with its customers and their online security , it always innovates to keep you more secure day after day, for a fair price in the long term and without sacrificing the speed of your connection, recently Nord is developing a new VPN protocol, Nordlynx a version still under construction derived from the Wireguard protocol, if you want to have a VPN of last security that think how it will make you more secure in the next month NordVPN is the right choice, I am completely thankful for being a customer and for finding what to me is the perfect VPN.More

    BUYER BEWARE!

BUYER BEWARE! If you purchase NordVPN, it will throttle your interned speed/connectivity by 50%, like ... it did to mine. I pay $100/month to get speeds of nearly 600mbs. With NordVPN turned on, my speeds decrease to 250mbs. Nord’s “customer support” is useless and unprofessional, and, after nearly 3 weeks of endless “try this, try that”, they were unable to resolve the issue and blamed it on everything under the sun except their product, when it is OBVIOUS that, since I have zero speed issues with Nord turned off, and ONLY experience the issues with Nord turned on, it is NordVPN that is causing the issue. When I asked them for a refund of my one year subscription paid in advance and in good faith, they refused, and have now decided to ignore me. So, YOU’VE BEEN WARNED. Their VPN will devastate your internet speeds, their “support” is ridiculous, they are in denial, and they will not refund your money, even if their product is a failure…More

TorGuard is an expensive service that focuses on keeping you safe while torrenting. However, it makes you jump through a lot of hoops to access its free trial, and the same is true for its refund policy. This really made me wonder whether this high-cost VPN is worth it. Overall, TorGuard is an okay VPN, but better alternatives are available. It offers excellent speeds and robust security featu...

    Love Torguard

I have used several VPNs over the years and got blocked by Netflix or Amazon, etc. I went with Torgua... rd and I did have to get a personal IP address at an additional cost. But anytime there is any issue, they are right there and helping. They may have to change your IP address, but they do what they promise. I switched to their annual plan and I don’t see anyone with a much better price than what I am paying. I also have a free email address that I don’t use much, but a few people have it, so I keep it and use it. I consider trying someone else once in a while but am afraid if I do that, if I’m not happy and come back to them, the price will be higher. I honestly, don’t see why they aren’t more highly recommended. Also, I find them very patient, as I am not so young and not always great with current technology. They have been great with me.More

    Does not work with firestick

Their VPN does not work with 1st gen firesticks. They did not post this on their site. I paid $60 for ... a 1-year membership. After 7 days got a notice from Spectrum 18 complaints "Notice of Copyright Infringement" emails from the spectrum. Contact billing for refund, they gave me the runaround and kept asking the same questions over and over again. Then told me a refund is not available after 7 days. However, it takes spectrum over 7 days to send a complaint and they never said it didn't work with 1st gen firestick. Also, the app connected to vpn through the firestick and never said it had an issue. So this company is scamming, do not use it if you want to get a "Notice of Copyright Infringement" letter from Spectrum and no refund.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

Even though NordVPN and TorGuard both offer impressive services, NordVPN goes further to protect your online privacy, with the industry’s most advanced security features included standard with all subscriptions. NordVPN also delivers more stable and faster connection speeds, suitable for all kinds of online activities.

    Best VPN for Torrents

True to its name, TorGuard welcomes torrenting on all its servers and is compatible with most torrent apps. However, its download speeds fall in the average range for premium VPNs, and below average in some locations. Even though NordVPN supports torrenting on specific servers only, its bigger network of over 5,000 servers includes many P2P-optimized units that deliver higher connection speeds.

    Best VPN for Windows

Both NordVPN and TorGuard have dedicated apps for Windows, with attractive features such as a kill switch, leak protection, and support for multiple security protocols. Both apps have a clean interface, but NordVPN offers a sleeker and a more user-friendly client, with a bigger list of servers to choose from.

    Best VPN for Android

NordVPN and TorGuard provide native clients for Android with similar features, including support for multiple protocols and public wi-fi protection. Unfortunately, both apps lack a kill switch. However, NordVPN for Android includes the provider’s unique CyberSec suite. By protecting you from malware and annoying ads, the feature make your mobile browsing smoother and safer.

    Best VPN for Mac

Both providers offer dedicated MacOS apps with a kill switch and leak protection. TorGuard’s Mac software client supports multiple protocols and gives you full control over which level of security you use. There’s a downside, however: the stronger the encryption, the slower your connection will be. NordVPN’s app for Mac better balances security and speed. The app comes in two separate versions, with each featuring one of the two most secure protocols (OpenVPN and IKEv2).

    Best VPN for iOS

While both NordVPN and TorGuard offer elegant apps for iOS devices, NordVPN leads in this category for several reasons. Unlike TorGuard, which uses only the IPSec protocol, NordVPN for iOS supports both IPSec and the much more secure IKEv2. In addition, NordVPN’s app has a built-in kill switch, which can’t be found in TorGuard’s iOS client.

    Best VPN for USA

TorGuard has a relatively large network of US servers. However, you need to get its dedicated US IP address to stream content from your licensed Netflix library. Even then, sufficient speed for smooth streaming is not guaranteed. Meanwhile, NordVPN boasts one of the largest US server networks in the industry – over 1,900 units and counting. The built-in SmartPlay feature makes connecting to servers optimized for streaming US content from within the country extremely simple, and there are no hidden extra fees.

    The Bottom Line

TorGuard is a solid service with many impressive features, but with its reliability and range of capabilities, NordVPN powers ahead to win this race convincingly. If you want to stream securely in HD without interruptions or extra fees, NordVPN is the clear choice. What impresses us most about NordVPN is that you get such great streaming while experiencing a more secure and privacy-friendly service than almost any other VPN can provide. Nevertheless, if you don’t mind a US-based provider with some speed lags and streaming limitations, you will be pleased with TorGuard’s overall performance for its price.
