On the surface, NordVPN looks like a really impressive service. It claims to have a huge global server network, the ability to unblock tons of streaming platforms, and iron-clad security and privacy features. Plus, you can get it all for just $3.49/month. That all sounds great, but is there a catch? To find out, I did an in-depth analysis of NordVPN. I tested its speeds and how well it performs...

Best documentation was easy to understand

I came from Surfshark which never worked correctly. I had to run from the browser extension with supp... ort telling me it was my network that was causing the problem. That was rubbish. I set Nord up and had it running in a short time from the documentation. I only had to ask support about accessing more servers than just the one I saw. Great product.More

Average service, some nice features, rubbish support

Basic features work really well. Basically. I liked the feature that when Nord crashes (as it seems to...  do monthly) it will shut other apps so they aren't exposed. My subscription is based in Australia. Found downloads peak at about 1-1.5Mb/s, which is ok as long as you aren't playing online games. Don't go for the frills (though hard not to when they gamify them). I canceled my subscription because I added the Kill switch and then MFA. Nek Minnit I can't even log in. No way to remove the Kill switch without logging in. Uninstalled, reinstalled no joy. Went to the help page, and it redirected me to up my subscription as the only solution. No chatbot where I am. and I don't have an email app so couldn't email help. After a couple of hours of mucking around. Gave up and went to a competitor. Note: if I hadn't played with the security settings, I would still be with Nord. But if I can't log in, it's a dead service to me.More

VyprVPN is a popular VPN service created by Switzerland-based Golden Frog. This VPN has worked hard to establish itself as a trusted provider and advocate of internet privacy. The provider has also been taking steps to improve its reliability, security, and quality of service based on customer requests. However, does VyprVPN really make the cut? Here's a preview: when it comes to privacy, geobl...

    Chameleon is Amazing

I tried CyberGhost, Express, and Nord VPN over the last month. None of these were able to get by my in... stitution's Fortigate Firewall doing Deep Packet Inspection scanning. They are using some sort of Obfuscation technique but they were not good enough. I read about VyprVpn's Chameleon protocol. YES... It worked !!!! I do have to sacrifice speed but at least I get outside access. When I am out of that environment, I switch back to Wireguard and the speed increases 300%. The price is great, their Live chat was great when I questioned their own DNS servers. They were easy to reach with the chat and took the time to explain how their DNS servers worked. I highly recommend VyprVPN !!!More

    I don't have time to...

The company behind VyprVPN, Goldenfrog claims to have taken steps to improve its reliability, security... , and quality of service. I'm not sure when they said this, however, in 2022, reliability and QoS are going downhill quickly. I've been using Vypr for over a year with the software installed and executing on each PC. Everything worked relatively well until about three months ago when I began experiencing frequent and intermittent connectivity issues. Thinking that my 10-year-old router might be the cause, I installed a new TPLink router with all the latest technology After many hours of side-by-side testing with two computers on the same LAN, I have observed that a PC with the VPN turned off had 100% connectivity while a PC using Vypr had the issues. I have adjusted Vypr to use various protocols and TAP adaptors with no success in improving the QoS. As such, I'm convinced that my PCs and LAN are operating as they should. Further, from the beginning, I configured Vypr to always connect to a server in Canada. Every time I boot my PC I use "whatismyip.com" to make sure that the PC is operating through the Vypr. About half the time it connects to a server in the USA and yet the software says that it is connected to Canada. I use a couple of business online services with geolocation services that require a Canada connection so I also know when Vypr connects to the USA when I am blocked from logging in to one of the business services. IT's really annoying when the software says it's connected to Canada and yet it is not. The biggest annoyance is that I now find I have to check my external IP every time I boot a device. Why should I have to do this? I've used other VPNs and they just worked all the time. I never had to keep checking them to make sure they are working correctly. I've also done security testing to make sure there are no IP or DNS leaks or any other issues and it appears that Vypr lives up to its reputation of being secure. If the service would operate consistently so that I don't have to always check it or disconnect and reconnect to force a Canada server, I could give Vypr 5 stars. Overall it's not a bad service, however, if the QoS continues to degrade, I may be forced to go back to one of the other VPNs that I've used. I don't have time to "handhold" VyprVPN.More

    Best VPN by category

While both VPNs are excellent choices, NordVPN is better because it offers a bigger and faster server network, contributing to its overall reliability. Plus, it's cheaper.

NordVPN wins with its P2P-file sharing on all servers and solid security features (such as its own DNS servers to prevent leaks). Also, there’s a list of Specialty Servers optimized for incredible speeds while torrenting. Conversely, VyprVPN has slower download rates and doesn't support port forwarding.

NordVPN is better for Windows as it has many advanced features, like split tunneling, double VPN (multi-hop), and Threat Protection (ad and malware blocker). VyprVPN is also a solid choice. It uses AES 256-bit encryption (just like NordVPN) and advanced security protocols such as OpenVPN and Chameleon. However, it doesn’t include split tunneling or an ad blocker on its Windows app.

NordVPN only beats VyprVPN because it provides a 7-day free trial if you download the app via Google Play Store. Apart from that, the difference is barely noticeable — both VPNs are simple to install, easy to use, and offer incredible speeds and robust security.

Both vendors offer user-friendly apps for Mac. However, NordVPN is slightly better, as it has better speeds and supports the ultra-secure NordLynx protocol.

VyprVPN lacks a kill switch on iOS, which could leave your data vulnerable to accidental exposure. NordVPN is safer, thanks to an effective kill switch, secure protocols, and rock-solid encryption on iOS.

Both have servers in the US, but NordVPN wins by covering 17 US locations, compared to VyprVPN’s 8. While both VPNs have issues unblocking Netflix US, NordVPN is a better option for streaming US content as it effectively gives you access to Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, and more.

    The Bottom Line

While both vendors have apps that are easy to use and allow users to surf the web without fear of prying eyes, NordVPN's expansive global network and quality of service make it the clear winner. VyprVPN users benefit from its Chameleon technology, making it usable in China, but it provides fewer benefits overall and is more expensive. NordVPN's faster and more stable connections, intuitive apps, and robust security make it hard to compete with.
