Both NordVPN and VyprVPN have a lot of excellent features. Both offer unlimited bandwidth and server switching, can be used to access geo-restricted content, and are easy to install and use. VyprVPN is based in Switzerland which is a definite benefit when it comes to privacy. NordVPN claims to be based in Panama, but there is some debate about this. However, NordVPN is well-known for taking users privacy seriously and for turning down requests for information about their users. In terms of general privacy and security NordVPN is a clear front runner. It offers 2048-bit encryption and a variety of security protocols, along with a kill switch, and strict no logging policy. VyprVPN is upfront with users about keeping partial logs for 30-days, but users do benefit from its Chameleon technology, which makes it perfect for use in countries such as China. NordVPN and VyprVPN have a similar number of server locations, but NordVPN has nearly five times the number of servers that VyprVPN currently has. NordVPN also allows more simultaneous connections with six to VyprVPN’s five.

It’s not often that a VPN has cheap prices coupled with an excellent set of features. Yet, when my team and I looked at what NordVPN has to offer, this is exactly what we found. It offers a huge global network of servers, unblocks hundreds of streaming platforms, and has iron-clad security and privacy features — and you can get it all for just $3.29/month. I had to wonder what the catch was. ...

Best documentation was easy to understand

I came from Surfshark which never worked correctly. I had to run from the browser extension with supp... ort telling me it was my network that was causing the problem. That was rubbish. I set Nord up and had it running in a short time from the documentation. I only had to ask support about accessing more servers than just the one I saw. Great product.More

Average service, some nice features, rubbish support

Basic features work really well. Basically. I liked the feature that when Nord crashes (as it seems to...  do monthly) it will shut other apps so they aren't exposed. My subscription is based in Australia. Found downloads peak at about 1-1.5Mb/s, which is ok as long as you aren't playing online games. Don't go for the frills (though hard not to when they gamify them). I canceled my subscription because I added the Kill switch and then MFA. Nek Minnit I can't even log in. No way to remove the Kill switch without logging in. Uninstalled, reinstalled no joy. Went to the help page, and it redirected me to up my subscription as the only solution. No chatbot where I am. and I don't have an email app so couldn't email help. After a couple of hours of mucking around. Gave up and went to a competitor. Note: if I hadn't played with the security settings, I would still be with Nord. But if I can't log in, it's a dead service to me.More

VyprVPN is a popular VPN service created by Switzerland-based Golden Frog. This VPN has worked hard to establish itself as a trusted provider and advocate of internet privacy. The provider has also been taking steps to improve its reliability, security, and quality of service based on customer requests. However, does VyprVPN really make the cut? Here's a preview: when it comes to privacy, geobl...

Chameleon is Amazing

I tried CyberGhost, Express, and Nord VPN over the last month. None of these were able to get by my in... stitution's Fortigate Firewall doing Deep Packet Inspection scanning. They are using some sort of Obfuscation technique but they were not good enough. I read about VyprVpn's Chameleon protocol. YES... It worked !!!! I do have to sacrifice speed but at least I get outside access. When I am out of that environment, I switch back to Wireguard and the speed increases 300%. The price is great, their Live chat was great when I questioned their own DNS servers. They were easy to reach with the chat and took the time to explain how their DNS servers worked. I highly recommend VyprVPN !!!More

I don't have time to...

The company behind VyprVPN, Goldenfrog claims to have taken steps to improve its reliability, security... , and quality of service. I'm not sure when they said this, however, in 2022, reliability and QoS are going downhill quickly. I've been using Vypr for over a year with the software installed and executing on each PC. Everything worked relatively well until about three months ago when I began experiencing frequent and intermittent connectivity issues. Thinking that my 10-year-old router might be the cause, I installed a new TPLink router with all the latest technology After many hours of side-by-side testing with two computers on the same LAN, I have observed that a PC with the VPN turned off had 100% connectivity while a PC using Vypr had the issues. I have adjusted Vypr to use various protocols and TAP adaptors with no success in improving the QoS. As such, I'm convinced that my PCs and LAN are operating as they should. Further, from the beginning, I configured Vypr to always connect to a server in Canada. Every time I boot my PC I use "whatismyip.com" to make sure that the PC is operating through the Vypr. About half the time it connects to a server in the USA and yet the software says that it is connected to Canada. I use a couple of business online services with geolocation services that require a Canada connection so I also know when Vypr connects to the USA when I am blocked from logging in to one of the business services. IT's really annoying when the software says it's connected to Canada and yet it is not. The biggest annoyance is that I now find I have to check my external IP every time I boot a device. Why should I have to do this? I've used other VPNs and they just worked all the time. I never had to keep checking them to make sure they are working correctly. I've also done security testing to make sure there are no IP or DNS leaks or any other issues and it appears that Vypr lives up to its reputation of being secure. If the service would operate consistently so that I don't have to always check it or disconnect and reconnect to force a Canada server, I could give Vypr 5 stars. Overall it's not a bad service, however, if the QoS continues to degrade, I may be forced to go back to one of the other VPNs that I've used. I don't have time to "handhold" VyprVPN.More

Best VPNs by category

While both VPNs are excellent choices, NordVPN is the clear winner. Not only that, but they have some awesome coupon deals going on right now.

VyprVPN is not recommended for torrenting as it close accounts without refunds if it receives notice of copyright infringement. NordVPN supports P2P / torrenting on all its servers and have its own DNS servers to prevent leakage.

Both providers offer easy to install and use apps for Windows. Users of VyprVPN benefit from the option to configure their computer to only allow traffic through the VPN connection. NordVPN users, however, benefit from its better encryption, range of security protocols, dual VPN on some servers, strict no logging policy, and greater number of servers.

The apps provided by both vendors are simple to install and easy to use. VyprVPN’s app allows you to compare server speeds and reliability in real time. Users of NordVPN’s Android app benefit from the same level of security, privacy, speed, and consistency that are found on Windows.

Both vendors offer easy to install and use apps for this operating system. NordVPN offers a one-size-fits-all VPN that works seamlessly with iOS and MacOS devices. VyprVPN offers easy server switching on its Mac app.

The VyprVPN app for iOS allows users to connect their VPN automatically when connected to public Wi-Fi. NordVPN have all the same benefits as they have on other operating systems including excellent encryption, strict no logging policy, and fast and consistent connections.

Both VyprVPN and NordVPN have servers within the USA, and both can be used to access geo-restricted content, including US Netflix. It is the speed, reliability, security and server numbers of NordVPN that put it in the lead.

The Bottom Line

While both vendors have apps that are easy to use and allow users to surf with anonymity, NordVPN number of features and the quality of the service it provides make it a clear winner. VyprVPN users benefit from its Chameleon technology, making it usable in China, but must balance this with its approach to logging and torrenting. NordVPN provides excellent levels of privacy and securing including DNS leak protection and 2048-bit dual VPN technology. Coupled with its greater number of servers, its ability to support P2P / torrenting, and the fact that it offers the faster and more stable connection makes it hard to beat.
