Below, we compare three mid-level VPNs in the form of TunnelBear VPN, Freedom-IP VPN, and Getflix VPN. All three provide 256-bit encrypted tunnels and classify as budget-friendly options in the market.

However, there are also many differences between them. Each provider has differing levels of logging. Freedom-IP keeps logs, and TunnelBear keeps partial logs while there is little information about Getflix's policies. Of the three, Getflix is the only one based in a privacy-friendly country, Seychelles. TunnelBear and Getflix are under the jurisdiction of the 5 and 9 Eyes Alliances.

While none offer a money-back guarantee, Getflix and Freedom-IP offer 14- and 7-day free trials, while TunnelBear has a free-forever plan to test its services.

Each provider also has a couple of unique features that help them stand out. Getflix is the only one that offers 24/7 live chat support. Freedom-IP will please gamers with its “gamer mode” that increases speeds and reduces latency. And TunnelBear allows you to have free internet access in restricted countries with its patented “GhostBear” mode.

TunnelBear is one of the most beginner-friendly VPNs, offering a solid free version. Despite its adorable design, it’s also renowned for its security and privacy features. But can you truly rely on this lighthearted VPN to protect you the way the best providers can? After extensive tests, I can confirm that TunnelBear is an excellent VPN with great potential. It’s straightforward to use, d...

    DANGEROUS for CANADIANS

I live in the GTA, everything was fine "until" I installed TunnelBear on one of my 7 devices, now I ca... n no longer watch any USA TV stations on line on any of my other 6 devices, this company is scum, they hid something in there that disabled all my other devices unless I buy their VPN, well, not going to buy their garbage, can't believe how much it slowed my device, I would rather wipe all my drives than give TunnelBear one cent!More

Freedom-IP is a French VPN service founded in 2010, but you rarely see its name across the web. If you are French, you might know more about it, as it seems that the service is aimed towards a French audience. Even though Freedom-IP was probably not created strictly with gamers in mind, it’s great for online games because it has a special LowLatency mode that enables improved speed and lower...

The focus of GetFlix sounds like it should be accessing to Netflix. While it uses SmartDNS to provide fast Netflix streaming, it also unblocks music and video streaming services that might not otherwise be available in your country. GetFlix has more than 39 global VPN servers and 1000 DNS servers located in the United States, Africa, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe, and more. Al...

    Getflix DNS

I have had this service for a number of years in New Zealand. Getflix is really a DNS service at fir... st. I have put the smart DNS in my router so it covers all devices in my home. On my Nvidia Shield, iPad, and iPhone I can stream BBC player, ITV, Channel 9, 10, and ABC, and I also have access to HBO max and other streaming services which I would not normally be able to use because of geographic restrictions. DNS is better than using a VPN to change location as it doesn't slow the speed of my connection and also I don't have to keep changing the location on the VPN. If you use this service as a DNS service only it works really well. So again, use this as a DNS service and maybe use another provider for VPN.More

    Not working. Terrible customer service

I'm surprised this review is listed as being updated on Jan 22 and still lists US Netflix access, when...  no access to US Netflix has been possible via Getflix since Sept 21 and still isn't possible. As of this week access to Amazon, Prime US has also failed for me and the terrible customer service makes the whole experience so much worse. Typically the chat responses work until you ask a tricky question (like when will this be fixed?) and then they will disconnect you and the entire chat box option then disappears. To make matters worse, despite knowing that several friends and colleagues have had the same experience (of being prematurely cut off) they will try to tell you that you disconnected the chat and that it must be an issue with your internet, although that has literally never happened to me on any other chat service online! In the past the service would go down and they would tell you the backend team was working on fixing it and you'd get an eta, but now it seems that access to Netflix US and Amazon US are not going to be fixed, which is a core part of why people are using the service. It's cheaper than other options but now you know why...More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

Neither Freedom-IP nor Getflix offers services that can compete with TunnelBear on any level. TunnelBear is the only option that goes beyond offering only the standard VPN features. It also has a vastly superior server network and much higher-quality apps for a wider range of devices. We can confidently say that it’s the best option for most VPN users.

    Best VPN for Torrents

TunnelBear is by far the best choice for torrenting, thanks to its 5,000 servers in 47 countries, all of which support P2P. With many more options than either Getflix or Freedom-IP, you’re bound to find a server closer to you for faster speeds. Plus, Freedom-IP clearly states torrenting is against its T&Cs.

    Best VPN for Windows

This is another easy win for TunnelBear. Its Windows app has a fun, modern, and user-friendly interface, plus all the security features you expect from a top VPN, except for split tunneling. Additionally, it's quite convenient to use the world map to find servers in specific regions quickly. In contrast, Getflix’s app is somewhat outdated, and Freedom-IP doesn’t have its own native apps.

    Best VPN for Android

Getflix puts up a good fight for the Android category, but TunnelBear still has the best overall app. It comes with all three of TunnelBear’s features, GhostBear (stealth mode), VigilantBear (kill switch), and SplitBear (split tunneling). As a bonus, it’s clear most users prefer it, with slightly higher ratings on the Google Play Store than Getflix.

    Best VPN for Mac

As a virtual clone of the desktop app, TunnelBear’s app for macOS also wins this round. It has the same lighthearted and straightforward approach with a map-based interface. Getflix’s app has the same issues as its Windows version, with an outdated and non-user-friendly design.

    Best VPN for iOS

With one of the most feature-rich apps for iOS, TunnelBear takes this round with ease. It’s one of the few VPN apps that features split tunneling on iOS. The only thing you have to go without is GhostBear. Unfortunately, Getflix’s iOS app has some bugs and usability issues, so it can’t really compete.

    Best VPN for USA

Getflix wins this round thanks to its multiple server locations in the US, compared to TunnelBear’s one. That makes it the best option if you’re in the US and want to simply connect to the fastest server. That being said, TunnelBear is a far better option if you’re in the US and you want to change your IP and access content from other countries.

    The Bottom Line

TunnelBear is the clear winner here. The only area the other two can compete is when it comes to their prices, but the slight discount is not worth the features, accessibility, and convenience you lose. Plus, TunnelBear is the only one that offers a generous free plan to test it out, while Getflix only offers a 14-day free trial. Getflix and Freedom-IP have their niches, but TunnelBear clearly offers a superior service for the majority of users.
