PureVPN and HMA both offer a range of great features. Both use military-grade encryption to secure your connection, a kill switch, and a range of tunneling protocols. Both also offer different connections modes so you can easily choose the best setup for your needs, without having to manually change any settings. However, PureVPN also offers split tunneling, DDoS protection, and DNS, IPv6, and WebRTC leak protection. Both keep partial logs but are open about exactly what they record, what happens with that information, and who has access to it. Neither provider logs your online activity or the sites that you visit. Overall, PureVPN has slightly better customer service. Both providers offer live chat and have helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable customer service assistants, but PureVPN’s live chat channel is available 24/7, whereas HMA’s only operates during specific hours. HMA and PureVPN are both able to bypass geo-restrictions and access popular streaming services like Netflix, although only PureVPN openly guarantees that it can access all regional Netflix versions.

HMA (formerly HideMyAss) is a relatively cheap VPN that claims to offer more server locations than anyone else. However, it has faced some serious controversies in the past. Is it a VPN that can keep you safe and anonymous online? To find out, I performed extensive tests on all its features and explored its updated privacy policy. I also checked out several connection issues customers have rep...

    Excellent value for money!

First, it's a full VPN. Very intuitive and easy app. Lots of connection options and without much loss ... of speed. The official website has the payment method in my local currency, with a localized value and thus leaving a fair value through the VPN. Thank VPNMentor for the product recommendation and targeted discount.More

PureVPN is a highly-rated and affordable VPN, but its had its share of controversies. A past incident involving the FBI caused significant damage to its reputation. So, has it done enough to improve its policies since then? To find out, I did a deep dive into its privacy policy and everything else it offers. I also tested its speeds, thoroughly explored its server network, examined its security ...

An excellent value, all things considered

While they will absolutely throttle p2p in most servers, it's easy to find and log into the p2p server... s. They responded promptly when I had questions (although once it was basically to say "sorry, tough luck"). Overall though, I think I paid something like $20 for a year's subscription - I really can't complain. I'm sold on the service, although I think the fact that it's based out of HK is a bit spooky. 9/10More

Not Private! They cooperate with FBI! Application will NOT CLOSE (only minimizes)

PureVPN COOPERATES WITH FBI INVESTIGATIONS! You can verify this with any search! PureVPN REQUIRES ... USERS TO PROVIDE REAL NAME TO USE THE SERVICE! VPN Does NOT Support Close Application, Against Windows Standards! Close Actually Minimizes and it Keeps Running. Company refuses to change this back (used to operate correctly) A clear violation of your rights as owner of your PC.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

PureVPN and HMA are closely matched in terms of security, privacy, and user experience. Neither restricts bandwidth or speed, and both provide reliable services. HMA offers quicker connections overall and a greater number of servers and server locations. PureVPN offers greater customization, dedicated Netflix servers, and anonymous payment options.

    Best VPN for Torrents

PureVPN and HMA both allow torrenting on their networks, although they do restrict P2P activities to specific servers. PureVPN’s leak protection and greater range of tunneling protocols are ideal for torrenting. However, HMA’s faster speeds and its unique Fast File Uploading service are great for sharing large files quickly.

    Best VPN for Windows

PureVPN and HMA both work exceptionally well with Windows, with apps that are easy to use. Both offer different connection modes. HMA can connect you to a server in almost every country on Earth and has higher speeds, whereas PureVPN offers more customization options and split tunneling.

    Best VPN for Android

Both vendors have dedicated Android apps that are easy to navigate. HMA offers better speeds, more stable connections, and a greater number of server locations, while PureVPN offers more features and can be more easily tailored to your needs and preferences.

    Best VPN for Mac

PureVPN and HMA both have native apps available for Mac OS. They both also offer detailed and easy-to-follow setup instructions for those who prefer manual configuration or have older versions of OS X that don’t support the apps. HMA’s main advantage is a faster server network.

    Best VPN for iOS

Dedicated iOS apps are available from both PureVPN and HMA. Both offer unlimited data and bandwidth, but HMA offers a wider variety of server locations and generally higher speeds.

    Best VPN for USA

PureVPN and HMA both have large server arrays in the US, although the two providers take different approaches to covering the country. PureVPN has more than twice as many US servers (490 vs. 198), but HMA has over four times as many server locations (55 vs. 13). PureVPN has dedicated Netflix servers that enable you to access US Netflix from anywhere. However, many of HMA’s US servers also unblock Netflix, and the network’s higher speeds are ideal for streaming.

    The Bottom Line

Both of these VPN providers offer value for your money, reliability, and security. They both also offer 30-day money-back guarantees, unlimited bandwidth, and user-friendly apps. PureVPN has the greater range of features and more options for customization. However, if speed and reliability are most important to you, then HMA should be your choice. In addition, HMA offers a unique Freedom Mode that automatically connects you to the nearest server in a country with protected free speech, a very valuable feature if you live or travel in high-censorship countries. That capability, together with HMA’s server presence in an amazing 190 countries, ultimately puts HMA on top.
