Private Internet Access vs PureVPN vs WiTopia VPN 2023

Which VPN is better?

All three of these providers, PIA, PureVPN and WiTopia, offer great service to users at reasonable prices. PureVPN leads the way in terms of the number of server locations it has; more than double of PIA and WiTopia combined. However, in terms of actual servers, PIA is in a league of its own. Neither PIA nor Pure keep any user logs at all, while WiTopia does keep a trailing log of indirect data, but no data that can be used to identify users. All three services can be used on all major operating systems, however, for mobile WiTopia is limited depending on the mobile operator and hardware provider. All three have options that allow users to access geo-restricted content on streaming services such as Netflix, but only PureVPN and PIA support P2P Torrenting. While PureVPN and PIA can be accessed currently in China, this is one global area where WiTopia states it has difficulties accessing, along with some parts of Canada, Belize, UAE and Oman.

Private Internet Access has one of the cheapest VPN subscriptions available — you can sign up for as little as $2.19/month. With such a low price, I wondered whether PIA could really stand out against its higher-priced competitors. It’s been around for 10+ years, so it could be one of the best-value VPNs out there. I decided to find out just how good it is by looking into the company’s lo...

Best VPN I have used

I have been using PIA for three years and I have been very pleased. My internet connection is 270MB up...  and 270MB down. I get on average 250MB up and 250MB down. I have found that turning on the wire guard speeds up my internet speed by 50mb.More

PIA is a perfect backdoor to your computer

Briefly said, all my accounts were compromised few days after PIA installation only on Chrome, includi... ng services that I have never used like Facebook Ads (corrupted from far far away in Kazakstan). Yesterday, someone changed my PIA email for a one-shot usage email @yopmail.com and stole around 100 euros on my VISA for payment to PIA - Private Internet Access. There is no doubt that PIA is a perfect and complete security hole direct to your computer and personal stuff.More

PureVPN claims to be a superfast VPN for streaming with great security at a low price. It offers an extensive server network, military-grade encryption, and much more. But is it really as good as its most popular competitors? To find the answer, I performed extensive tests on its speeds, security features, and everything else it offers. This included seeing how well it works with the top strea...

An excellent value, all things considered

While they will absolutely throttle p2p in most servers, it's easy to find and log into the p2p server... s. They responded promptly when I had questions (although once it was basically to say "sorry, tough luck"). Overall though, I think I paid something like $20 for a year's subscription - I really can't complain. I'm sold on the service, although I think the fact that it's based out of HK is a bit spooky. 9/10More

Scam! Worst SUPPORT. WORST BILLING SYSTEM.

I paid for the subscription using crypto, and the money was withdrawn from my account to theirs, I wai... ted 30 minutes upon the request of their system and nothing happened, then their system told me that the session was expired and no payment was received! I reached out to their support, and they kept telling me that my issue was moved to some higher level support and they will reach out. I waited, and I waited, and while I was waiting, three of their customer support reached out to me asking about my experience with the service... and when I answer and tell them that I have no service! they just ignore it. After more than 24 hours, I reached out to their support, and they told me that I'll get an answer in 2 hours, waited for 5, and still no answer. Reached out again, and they told me that the money didn't go to their accounts! I send them a screenshot that proves otherwise again, and they told me to wait again And in the end, they told me that the money will be converted back to my account in 15 days, 18 days later, and still nothing. Reached out again, and they asked me to re-tell the situation 10 times! and still no solution. All I hear from them is, I apologize for the inconvenience, we'll solve this soon, we'll move this ticket to the next level of support, and we'll reach out to you soon... empty promises!More

Endorsed by The New York Times and The Economist, WiTopia certainly does well in the first impressions stakes. Rebranded from the originally named Full Mesh Networks; WiTopia has been operating since 2003. Their aim has always been to supply "complicated and expensive security technology over the Internet as a set of managed services." They created their personalVPN in March 2005 to optimize their ...

Ok service, awful client

The service when working is ok and has no lag depending on which service you connect with. But nothing...  to get excited about. I'm confused by those who have been 10 years with them. The windows client on the other hand is heinous. I was for over 6 months denied access to the client as the update informed me my version of Windows 10 was not supported. I had connected customer support various times and they kept telling me to roll back a version. Eventually, there was an update but nobody informed me it was out. I had been unable to use the service for months. Additionally, the default DNS service can reject your DNS requests. I've had times where even when disconnected from the VPN I've been unable to use the internet altogether because their DNS service won't respond. Additionally the windows client often will revert from my choice of using my ISP's DNS when disconnected to back to witopia DNS and then refuse to connect to any of my networking services. I've had to remove the client various times from various Windows machines and flag this bug. Unfortunately I have a multi-year subscription that I cannot end, I pray for the day for the subscription to be over.More

The Bottom Line

PureVPN is a clear winner when it comes to these three providers. While PIA is comparable in terms of functionality and features; both have kill switches, and offer 7-day money back guarantees, PureVPN has more impressive encryption, split tunnelling and the option of using dedicated IPs. WiTopia offers the longer money back guarantee at 30 days, but the level of encryption that users get is dependent on the subscription package they buy, and the service lacks a kill switch. Both PIA and PureVPN packages differ in length of subscription, rather than content, but overall PureVPN offers the better value for money and security.
