Assuming you don’t want to get stuck down a rabbit-hole with an arm-full of information you can’t extract, Tunnelbear will ease your way through the vortex of internet warrens, offering you a safe way in and a smooth exit. If you’re using a free Wi-Fi hotspot, you really need this level of security to avoid your activities and information being tracked and, potentially, sold to the highest bidder. StrongVPN and WiTopia VPN have both been in the VPN game for some time, therefore have longevity and experience on their side. Their lower rankings within the industry are testament to how competitive this market is. All three of these VPN services offer high speeds, top-class encryption and high-quality customer support. To try and distinguish the leader in this pack, we must scrutinize the details. The one aspect working against WiTopia is that it has stricter rules than some of its rivals, while StrongVPN’s location in the US makes it vulnerable to changes in privacy or logging laws.

The beginnings of StrongVPN go back to 1994 when their small company, named Smart Technologies LLC, located in South Lake Tahoe, California, started selling PCs. Later, they expanded their business and started offering dial-up internet services, dedicated servers, and colocation services. Fast forward a couple of years, in 2005, they launched their VPN service and in 2019 StrongVPN was acquired b...

Great Service

Greetings, I have no complaints about Strong VPN no problem with payment of Canadian credit cards r... eliable service trustworthy security when connected. I don't know why there is so much negative feedback I'm just very lucky and no I'm not a lucky Irish man. Great price I pay $4.99 monthly support is great speeds are great and their encryption is very secure, I always check if my DNS if are leaked, and they always pass and check my speeds which are good. I know when connected with Strong VPN I can trust that I'm safe and secure with them.More

It just doesn't work

Nothing on the AppleTV platform will work. This include HBOMax, Amazon Prime, Showtime, Hulu, Peaco... ck. StrongVPN admits that none of this works...and they have not offered a timeline for when the solutions will become available.More

TunnelBear’s team does an excellent job in branding the VPN but is that all it takes to create a great service? With over 300 VPNs out there, the competition is fierce so I had to take it for a test and see if there’s more to it. I looked into its privacy policy and security features to see if it’s really safe. I ran many tests on its servers, checked the speeds, how many streaming platf...

OK for PC & Android, no firesticks

The PC and tablet versions of the paid version differ. Ghost Bear is on all versions, but Vigilant be... ar is PC only. Tried on an older Samsung tablet running kit kat, and a slightly newer one using marshmellow. I Will NOT install it on any of my android phones (they are for work), but I'm confident about them working on 7.1.1 up. Why no fire tv stick version? Have to use a different VPN or cast to it from a tablet that will run it. Their devs should look harder at the noob market they are aimed at, so get cracking develop one soon. In Canada, where TB is based, it's not for Netflix, but fine for IPTV and related stuff. The principal ISP's here (Bell, Rogers, Telus, Shaw) have become more aggressive blocking things lately, so a VPN is a must now. Throughput isn't horrible on a cheap 15/1 line, (the average is around 12/.9 using an in Canada server out of Vancouver) so it's mid-pack.More

DANGEROUS for CANADIANS

I live in the GTA, everything was fine "until" I installed TunnelBear on one of my 7 devices, now I ca... n no longer watch any USA TV stations on line on any of my other 6 devices, this company is scum, they hid something in there that disabled all my other devices unless I buy their VPN, well, not going to buy their garbage, can't believe how much it slowed my device, I would rather wipe all my drives than give TunnelBear one cent!More

Endorsed by The New York Times and The Economist, WiTopia certainly does well in the first impressions stakes. Rebranded from the originally named Full Mesh Networks; WiTopia has been operating since 2003. Their aim has always been to supply "complicated and expensive security technology over the Internet as a set of managed services." They created their personalVPN in March 2005 to optimize their ...

Ok service, awful client

The service when working is ok and has no lag depending on which service you connect with. But nothing...  to get excited about. I'm confused by those who have been 10 years with them. The windows client on the other hand is heinous. I was for over 6 months denied access to the client as the update informed me my version of Windows 10 was not supported. I had connected customer support various times and they kept telling me to roll back a version. Eventually, there was an update but nobody informed me it was out. I had been unable to use the service for months. Additionally, the default DNS service can reject your DNS requests. I've had times where even when disconnected from the VPN I've been unable to use the internet altogether because their DNS service won't respond. Additionally the windows client often will revert from my choice of using my ISP's DNS when disconnected to back to witopia DNS and then refuse to connect to any of my networking services. I've had to remove the client various times from various Windows machines and flag this bug. Unfortunately I have a multi-year subscription that I cannot end, I pray for the day for the subscription to be over.More

The Bottom Line

Users of Tunnelbear VPN may grizzle a little over their server distribution, which skips large swathes of land, particularly in the Middle East and Russia. This means users situated in those areas will struggle to make use of high speed connections, as there is no nearby server through which to operate. These are small considerations but, with so many vying for the top spot in the VPN world, it’s enough to deliver a serious blow to their rankings. It’s only by the skin of their teeth that StrongVPN manage to secure first place in this comparison.
