These are two very innovative VPN providers that offer exciting features and dedicated apps for MacOS, Windows, iOS, and Android. Strong security measures like 256-bit encryption, tracking prevention, and wi-fi protection come standard with either provider, as well as support for several VPN protocols including OpenVPN, SSTP, and L2TP. With ibVPN, you can further expect advanced encryption protocols like SoftEther and StealthVPN. The most notable difference between these VPNs is that while HMA delivers a very secure and fast VPN service with 900+ servers in 190 countries, ibVPN provides a combined VPN and DNS service, which enables you to bypass tough geoblocks without losing the security benefits of a VPN. One main drawback you’ll experience with ibVPN is that it only allows a single connection per subscription, whereas HMA allows you connect up to five devices simultaneously. We’ve analyzed these two providers in detail below, so keep on reading to find out which of them is truly better.

HMA (formerly HideMyAss) is a relatively cheap VPN that claims to offer more server locations than anyone else. However, it has faced some serious controversies in the past. Is it a VPN that can keep you safe and anonymous online? To find out, I performed extensive tests on all its features and explored its updated privacy policy. I also checked out several connection issues customers have rep...

    Excellent value for money!

First, it's a full VPN. Very intuitive and easy app. Lots of connection options and without much loss ... of speed. The official website has the payment method in my local currency, with a localized value and thus leaving a fair value through the VPN. Thank VPNMentor for the product recommendation and targeted discount.More

Update: Recently, ibVPN merged with StrongVPN. We did indepth testing on StrongVPN, and you can find all the details in our review. ibVPN is a relatively small VPN, with a network of 180+ servers in 50+ countries. The name stands for "invisible browsing" VPN, and true to its name, ibVPN has a strong focus on security and privacy. This provider claims to be a great VPN for many different purposes, ...

Very stable, full option, the top if you look for a good privacy protection option!

I am using ibVPN for about 5 years, and I never had an issue. It perfectly works with many protocols a... llowing me to use the VPN at home (with my DD-WRT router) and in many public places, like airports, even when some port usage is restricted --> Just switching the protocol! The 24h free trial is perfect for checking if the service fits your needs. I highly recommended it!More

Some great features but a lot of drops

I'm a customer since almost 2 years, paying 2.41$ / month. Choose them for the price, no-log policy a... nd because they support upnp/port forwarding (no NAT firewall + dynamic IP on 4 servers in the Netherlands). I always had a big problem with their server: connection drops.. If I use too much bandwidth, I loose the connection and the VPN client is not able to reconnect to the server by itself (I need to reconnect it manually). Same thing happens always with torrent clients and Socks proxy: tried with different clients but after some days or a week (if I'm lucky) their servers kick me out, and a restart of the torrent client is not enough. No!! I need to change manually the server to re-start to torrenting! No problem if we are slow, for that price I'm more than happy.. but all these disconnections are very, very boring. I will stay with them till I will not find something suitable for my needs, but there's too much work from my side to stay with them forever.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

HMA provides a very reliable VPN service overall that includes access to the largest VPN network worldwide, very fast servers, and exceptional 24/7 live chat support. With ibVPN, you can expect a service that combines the powers of a VPN and SmartDNS proxy into one compact privacy solution.

    Best VPN for Torrents

HMA has one of the most reliable VPN services for torrenting, giving you access to dedicated high-speed P2P servers, unlimited bandwidth, and a host of security features to keep you anonymous. Meanwhile, ibVPN also offers unrestricted P2P activity on some of its servers.

    Best VPN for Windows

HMA’s dedicated app for Windows has a flat, minimalist design and includes strong encryption and IPv6 leak protection. Meanwhile, ibVPN’s Windows client includes a built-in SmartDNS service, along with a kill switch and SOCKS5 proxy.

    Best VPN for Android

HMA is an ideal VPN provider for Android, as the dedicated app is easy to use and features built-in StealthVPN technology and a kill switch. Meanwhile, ibVPN offers its own dedicated Android app that features Double VPN technology alongside tracking and wi-fi protection.

    Best VPN for Mac

HMA offers a dedicated MacOS app that features strong encryption, IPv6 leak protection, and a dedicated streaming feature with servers optimized to access top media platforms without glitches. With ibVPN, you’ll get a MacOS app that combines a SmartDNS feature with strong VPN security features like DoubleVPN and StealthVPN.

    Best VPN for iOS

If you own multiple iOS devices, we recommend HMA, as the dedicated app is easy to install and set up and allows for up to five simultaneous device connections. With ibVPN, you can also expect a dedicated iOS app with strong encryption and a user-friendly interface. However, it only allows a single connection per subscription, which is a major drawback if you own several devices.

    Best VPN for USA

In addition to providing hundreds of US servers for bypassing American geoblocks from any location, HMA offers a dedicated streaming feature on all its apps. The feature includes access to servers optimized for unblocking US Netflix and similar streaming services. Meanwhile, ibVPN also offers dedicated US servers and a SmartDNS service that allows you to easily unblock Netflix-US, along with over 100 other streaming platforms from anywhere worldwide.

    The Bottom Line

Although ibVPN put up a good fight, HMA provides a more complete service, especially with regard to the variety of features offered and overall ease of use. As a result, HMA wins this comparison fairly comfortably. Overall, HMA provides more value for your money, especially because it allows up to five simultaneous device connections, whereas ibVPN only allows one. Finally, HMA provides better 24/7 customer support, including a live chat option.
