ExpressVPN and Unblock-Us VPN take very different approaches to securing your internet connection. While ExpressVPN is a traditional VPN that changes your IP address by routing your connection through a secure server, Unblock-Us requires you to change the DNS settings on your device itself and then routes your connection through a proxy server. While this means that Unblock-Us VPN doesn’t affect your connection speed, it also means that you won’t have most of the security features you would expect from a VPN, including a kill switch, AES encryption, and your choice of tunneling protocols. Meanwhile, ExpressVPN offers all those features, as well as exceptional speeds. One apparent advantage of the Unblock-Us approach is that you don’t need to manually switch servers to gain access to regionally specific content. However, there is no guarantee that you will actually be able to create a secure connection and unlock the content you want. With ExpressVPN, you know exactly where you are connecting, that the connection is secure, and that you can access all your favorite streaming services and websites.

ExpressVPN is one of the most popular and trusted names in the industry. It’s known for being one of the safest, fastest VPNs around, so I wanted to see if it can live up to these claims. It’s not the cheapest VPN, but it often offers discounts that make it a better value for the money. Other decent VPNs offer similar security features for much cheaper. So, do you really need to pay that muc...

I've been an ExpressVPN customer since 2017 and it's been great: quickly connects to a nearby server i... n the Wash DC region, embedded shortcuts to apps I want to use while using VPN, disconnects quickly, has the kill switch feature which is necessary these days, and has a fine mobile app which works well on my Android phones and tablets. However, I was just notified that the annual price is jumping from $99 to $117 upon the next renewal, so it's time to see how the others compare within VPN Mentor.More

    Ok, but expensive

Seems ok, but I wouldn't say it's worth $20AUD a month. That's steep if you live in a backwater like A... ustralia, where the currency is not valuable. Easy enough to set up - you don't need to be Einstein - but unless you're a tech nerd who can take a look under the bonnet, you'll just have to trust what they say about their product. It frequently drops out without the slightest warning, often when it's the only thing online at the time - despite fast and flawless fiber internet, rendering expression entirely useless UNLESS you have it sitting on your desktop where you can keep an eagle eye on it to actually see it when it drops out so you can kick it back into service again (it doesn't do it by itself), which seems to defeat its purpose, so I'm taking away 2 stars for that. Support is good and they do get back to you as fast as they can.More

Unblock-us.com's aim is to deliver a good VPN service for the lowest reasonable price. Their sales tactic is simple and clear; they just give your computer a new IP address. (This is different from more traditional vendors like IPVanish or ExpressVPN that connect your computers to different servers to change your IP address.) Though on the surface it seems a very bare-bones service it's more tha...

    No Longer Works

I have used this service for many years but since it has changed to StrongVPN, nothing works and suppo... rt can't fix it across any of my devices. Strangely, they tend to blame the user but reading these comments, I can see that my issue was not unique. I have unsubscribed and will find another provider.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

ExpressVPN comes out on top because it offers fast speeds without compromising on security or privacy. It is the more user-friendly service because dedicated apps are available for almost every platform or device, and you can use multiple devices simultaneously from different locations. Unblock-Us gives you fast connection speeds, but can’t match ExpressVPN’s security and features.

    Best VPN for Torrents

ExpressVPN is a torrent-friendly VPN that supports P2P activity on all its servers. Unblock-Us does not support torrenting, so ExpressVPN is a clear winner in this category.

    Best VPN for Windows

Both ExpressVPN and Unblock-Us work with Windows, but installing ExpressVPN does not require you to make changes to your device’s settings. Unblock-Us requires you to change your DNS settings, although you can download an app that makes the changes for you.

    Best VPN for Android

ExpressVPN and Unblock-Us can both be used with Android devices. However, as with Windows, setup is more complicated with Unblock-Us. There is also the problem that Unblock-Us has performance issues when your connection is over 3G or 4G. The vendor claims that upgrading to the Unblock-Us Virtually Anywhere app and service fixes the problem.

    Best VPN for Mac

Unblock-Us requires you to make changes to your DNS settings in order for it to work on Mac OS. ExpressVPN is easier to install and does not require any settings changes to get started.

    Best VPN for iOS

While both ExpressVPN and Unblock-Us work on iOS, you might encounter the same problems with Unblock-Us as you would on an Android device. Namely, the service is not reliable when you are on a mobile network rather than a home or office connection, unless you upgrade to Unblock-Us Virtually Anywhere.

    Best VPN for USA

ExpressVPN’s ability to bypass geo-restrictions on US Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming sites, the unsurpassed security of its US servers, and the wealth of other security and privacy features it offers make it a clear winner in this category. Unblock-Us does not consistently unblock US Netflix or similar sites.

    The Bottom Line

ExpressVPN is the clear winner here in terms of both overall performance and value for your money, particularly with long-term subscription plans. Unblock-Us VPN does have good things to offer if privacy is your main concern – especially since the company’s move to Barbados, known to be a privacy-friendly country. However, if you are looking for top-quality privacy protection and network security, then ExpressVPN is hard to beat. It provides speed, exceptional features, and the ability to unblock almost any content. And unlike Unblock-Us, ExpressVPN supports torrenting across its network. Furthermore, ExpressVPN operates from the British Virgin Islands, safely beyond Five-Eyes jurisdiction.
