ZenMate and Hide.me are two popular VPN providers known for the many security features they offer. Both offer free limited versions of their services alongside paid subscription plans. Millions of users worldwide rely on the dedicated apps of these two VPNs for MacOS, Windows, iOS, and Android to keep their online activity anonymous. Both providers support a maximum of five simultaneous connections, which is very useful if you own multiple devices. Both of these VPNs also have mid-sized networks, with ZenMate operating around 300 servers in 30+ countries and Hide.me competing with 150+ servers in 34 countries. Hide.me and ZenMate are different in some important respects, however. For example, while Hide.me offers advanced features like dynamic port forwarding and access to dedicated IP addresses, ZenMate competes with malware protection. Going back to their similarities, ZenMate and Hide.me both offer support for torrenting and are reliable for accessing geoblocked web services worldwide. However, only ZenMate can reliably unblock Netflix in the US. We’ll need a more detailed, side-by-side comparison of these two providers to determine which is better.

Offering a popular free version and cheap premium plans, hide.me claims to be one of the best value VPNs in the world. But will the free version keep you safe online, and how do its paid plans stack up to other premium VPNs? To find out, I performed extensive tests on every feature that hide.me offers. I explored speeds, streaming capabilities, and safety with the free and paid versions. In ad...

    Best VPN for free

It works perfectly fine, the speeds are good, and there are a lot of different locations. I have had ... no problems with this VPN, and I like that it has a 10GB data limit monthly (more than most competitors). I tried every other free VPN, but all of them are slow and aren't as fast as this one. In my opinion, download this VPN and you will be happy.More

ZenMate has been a popular VPN for 10+ years, especially with its free browser extensions. It offers low prices and many appealing features like streaming servers and fast speeds. But none of this matters if it can’t keep you safe, so I decided to find out if it really can. After my tests, I can say ZenMate is a safe VPN offering great value. It works great for streaming, has fast speeds at cl...

    Good experience

No matter your location, using a VPN is important for your online security. I got ZenMate for exactly ... that and I am satisfied with it, especially when it constantly improves its service. Customer support helped me so much and I just wanted to say that I've asked for their help a few times. And every time the support was respectful and fast in their response time. Keep it up!More

    Buggy and Unreliable

Good when it works, with a limited number of available servers. However, 1. Does not always connect ... to the fastest server. 2. On the Mac, it does not automatically connect to a server. 3. On iOS, it does connect automatically BUT does not do so consistently. 4. The Mac app has been buggy and not connecting at all, FOR MONTHS. They still have not fixed it.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

Hide.me is renowned for providing a fast and reliable VPN service with many security features and no usage or speed restrictions on its paid plans. ZenMate, on the other hand, is known for its innovative approach to delivering VPN functionality, with very user-friendly apps for all major platforms.

    Best VPN for Torrents

Hide.me is our recommended choice for downloading torrents, as it supports P2P and offers dynamic port forwarding to keep you anonymous. ZenMate may not be ideal for torrenting, as it previously prohibited the practice on its network. The provider now fully supports P2P file sharing without any restrictions, but does not provide servers optimized for the purpose so speed might be an issue.

    Best VPN for Windows

With Hide.me’s dedicated app for Windows, you’ll enjoy an intuitive user interface and built-in protection from IPv6 leaks and tracking. The app also offers support for numerous protocols including PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN. ZenMate competes with a Windows app that features malware protection and access to all servers on its network.

    Best VPN for Android

If you’re looking for a VPN with an Android app that features malware and tracking protection as well as access to servers that reliably bypass tough geoblocks, ZenMate is the clear choice. Hide.me offers an Android app with strong encryption, wi-fi protection, and support for OpenVPN as the default protocol.

    Best VPN for Mac

With a dedicated app that features dynamic port forwarding, fixed IP addresses, and a SOCKS proxy, Hide.me offers a very powerful MacOS service. ZenMate also provides a dedicated MacOS app that features strong encryption alongside tracking and wi-fi protection.

    Best VPN for iOS

Hide.me provides a reliable service for iOS that’s fortified with numerous features and backed by a transparent privacy policy. With ZenMate’s iOS service, you can expect protection from leaks and tracking.

    Best VPN for USA

ZenMate is an excellent VPN choice for the USA, as it provides about 70 efficient, dedicated servers that reliably unblock Netflix and many similar American websites. Meanwhile, Hide.me also provides a decent US service that unblocks many sites and services from outside the country. Unfortunately, Hide.me does not unblock Netflix-US.

    The Bottom Line

Without a doubt, both of these VPN providers offer real value for your money. However, Hide.me takes the prize home by maintaining a more transparent privacy policy that includes never retaining any logs. Hide.me also provides a more secure service overall, with features like dynamic port forwarding to protect your anonymity and support for more security protocols to allow you to customize the VPN to suit your needs.
