Offering a relatively basic service, OverPlay is a reliable smartDNS and VPN provider that uses good encryption, keeps no logs, and supports the OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP protocols. However, if your mind is set on streaming popular geo-restricted content, you’ll have a better chance with Ivacy, since OverPlay has limited geoblock bypassing capabilities. And while OverPlay has a medium-sized network of 650+ servers spread across more than 50 locations worldwide, Ivacy has a far bigger network of 1,000+ servers in 100+ locations. On the upside for both VPNs, either Ivacy or Overplay can be used effectively in China. One key difference is that it’s easy to run Ivacy on different devices because there are dedicated apps for all major operating systems, whereas OverPlay doesn’t support mobile platforms like Android and iOS. In addition, OverPlay lacks important security features such as a kill switch. In comparison, Ivacy provides a more advanced VPN service, with a kill switch, IPv6 leak protection, identity theft protection, split tunneling, and support for a wider range of protocols, including OpenVPN, L2TP, SSTP, PPTP, and IKEv2. Ivacy also offers more payment options, as well as excellent live chat support.

Ivacy is a long-running VPN with some of the cheapest subscriptions around. It also offers a popular free version and an extensive server network with many rare locations. But is it actually safe or trustworthy with your data? After all my tests, I’ve concluded that Ivacy is a solid option but not at the top VPN level. It offers above-average speeds and adequate security; the free version is...

Not sure where all these negative thoughts come from.

Never had a problem connecting my desktop pooters with Ivacy. Had minor problem connecting my IOS devi... ce to my dedicated European IP but that was soon sorted. I daresay most of the negativity comes from the younger generation who have no patience. Staff at Ivacy who helped this 75yr old were awesome and ever helpful. Keep at it guys! I'd give them 9.5.More

Important. OverPlay has been acquired by StrongVPN. Current OverPlay customers now get all the features of StrongVPN. If you have any questions, you can contact StrongVPN's 24/7 support (via email or live chat). Reliable proxies will provide you with optimum security and anonymity with a fast, reliable internet connection. Most premium services that we recommend, such as ExpressVPN, will do just t...

Versatile and flexible, but poor technical support

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

OverPlay is limited in many ways, including number of servers, ability to bypass restrictions, and availability for various platforms. Ivacy has a broader worldwide server presence, providing better coverage for more users around the world. Ivacy also supports more security protocols and integrates more advanced features into user-friendly apps. In the end, Ivacy’s overall reliability, connection speeds, network security, and privacy protection put it a level above OverPlay.

    Best VPN for Torrents

Both OverPlay and Ivacy support P2P file sharing, including torrenting. OverPlay supports these activities on all servers, while Ivacy supports them on only specific servers. However, Ivacy delivers a higher level of privacy and better download speeds than OverPlay.

    Best VPN for Windows

OverPlay’s Windows app is very basic in both design and capabilities, and lacks critical features like a kill switch. Ivacy’s Windows app has a sleeker layout, a reliable kill switch, split tunneling, IPv6 leak protection, and preset modes for different web activities.

    Best VPN for Android

Because OverPlay doesn’t have a dedicated client for Android, you’ll have to set it up manually. That means you’ll be limited to merely securing your connection, without any further personalization options. Ivacy, however, has a user-friendly Android app that allows you to switch between different protocols and servers easily and includes built-in public wi-fi protection.

    Best VPN for Mac

OverPlay for Mac is very simple and user-friendly, but limited to basic VPN features. Ivacy’s Mac app is also easy to use and is more customizable, equipped with more security options, and linked to a far larger and wider-ranging server network.

    Best VPN for iOS

OverPlay doesn’t offer a native iOS app, which leaves you with manual configuration and very limited capabilities. Ivacy, on the other hand, has an attractive iOS app with a well-designed interface that gives you unlimited server switching with a few taps.

    Best VPN for USA

Both providers give you access to US servers. While you can unblock popular American streaming services like US Netflix with OverPlay’s SmartDNS service, the VPN fails to get past tough US geoblocks. That means you’ll need to sacrifice privacy to gain access. Meanwhile, Ivacy VPN reliably accesses Netflix, Hulu, and similar US sites, and gives you higher connection speeds than OverPlay. Unfortunately, those speeds are still not sufficient for a completely smooth streaming experience.

    The Bottom Line

OverPlay puts up a decent fight, but the service will need many improvements before it can truly compete with premium VPNs like Ivacy. OverPlay’s limited protocol support, platform compatibility, and geoblock bypassing ability put it at a major disadvantage, especially when Ivacy offers much more at a far lower price. Overall, Ivacy is a good choice for casual VPN users, with cross-platform apps that are all well designed and provide solid encryption and anonymity. Unfortunately, in spite of its clear win in this battle, Ivacy’s inconsistent speeds and sometimes shaky performance on mobile platforms make it far from ideal for streaming HD videos. So while it easily outcompetes very basic VPNs, Ivacy doesn’t fare nearly as well when compared against industry leaders like NordVPN and CyberGhost.
