    Best alternative to StrongVPN

    Our Score: 9.9

For uninterrupted access to your favorite streaming platforms, like Netflix or Disney+, you can’t go wrong with ExpressVPN. With 3,000 servers in 105 countries, ExpressVPN offers superb speeds and reliable access to popular streaming platforms. Plus, it’s based in the British Virgin Islands, has an audited no-logs policy, and offers obfuscated servers, giving you private and unrestricted access to the internet.

SaferVPN has a reputation for flexible pricing that includes a 24-hour free trial and is covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee. Its location in Israel is a spoiler in terms of privacy but users will benefit from the good server coverage in over 30 countries. SaferVPN supports Netflix, but its speeds are mediocre at best. It makes up for this with useful security features, such as Wi-Fi protection and OpenVPN support.

Other than its fantastic sense of humor, TunnelBear offers ultimate security and privacy with its strict, independently audited zero-logs policy. Speeds are dependent on how far you’re located from your intended server but a free basic plan lets you test the service before jumping in. Unlike SaferVPN, TunnelBear only accepts credit cards (not Bitcoin). But with servers in over 47 countries and a stealth mode feature, it makes it possible to access sites whenever you're traveling.

Both VPNs are extremely affordable, but TunnelBear disappoints without a universal money-back guarantee. However, it makes up for it with unlimited device connections, while SaferVPN limits you to 12 at a time.

Below, we’ll analyze how these two VPNs compare across various categories.

    Terrible service

SaferVPN has terrible service. It is an Israeli-based company but for some reason, their Israeli node ... is missing for a while now. Their answer: "The Israel servers are under maintenance at the moment. It shall be back soon, I request you to please allow us some time." One has to wonder about a company that has no failover and takes weeks if not longer to bring up a server. If they had any competence or care, they could have brought up a new server within hours and a virtual one in half an hour. Gives you an idea of how bad they are. Stay away from this company and take your money somewhere else.More

TunnelBear is a beginner-friendly VPN that offers a limited free version. It uses industry-standard security features and has an independently audited no-logs policy. But is that enough to compete with some of the best VPNs available today? I thoroughly tested TunnelBear to find out how fast it is and how good it is for unblocking content. I tried all its apps and security features and checked...

    DANGEROUS for CANADIANS

I live in the GTA, everything was fine "until" I installed TunnelBear on one of my 7 devices, now I ca... n no longer watch any USA TV stations on line on any of my other 6 devices, this company is scum, they hid something in there that disabled all my other devices unless I buy their VPN, well, not going to buy their garbage, can't believe how much it slowed my device, I would rather wipe all my drives than give TunnelBear one cent!More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

If you tally up the scores, you’d see that it’s a very close battle. We gave SaferVPN the win by the thinnest of margins, thanks to its effortless apps and selection of VPN protocols. However, we’d still recommend TunnelBear to anyone who wants a user-friendly VPN with advanced security tools, like stealth mode. However, both VPNs have a way to go to catch up to a market leader like ExpressVPN. Based in a privacy-friendly location, with a vast server network, obfuscated servers, and a blazingly-fast proprietary VPN protocol, Lightway, ExpressVPN is superior in almost every regard.

    Best VPN for Torrents

Both SaferVPN and TunnelBear support torrenting with decent speeds, so downloading large files isn’t a frustrating experience. However, SaferVPN only allows torrenting on select servers, so not everyone will be able to find a fast server near them, so the win goes to TunnelBear. For lightning-fast download speeds anywhere in the world across a vast network of 3,000 servers in 105 countries (all of which support P2P), we recommend ExpressVPN.

    Best VPN for Windows

Both TunnelBear and SaferVPN offer user-friendly and modern apps for Windows. Both come with essential protection in the form of a kill switch and multiple VPN protocols, but SaferVPN offers a more familiar interface for VPN users, so it takes the win.

    Best VPN for Android

Both SaferVPN and TunnelBear have simple and intuitive Android apps, with highly positive Google Play Store user ratings. TunnelBear has a slight edge in terms of features, with split tunneling and stealth mode, but SaferVPN offers an easier user experience overall. This can be considered a tie, but for overall experience, TunnelBear takes the win for the Android category.

    Best VPN for Mac

With basically the same apps on Windows and Mac, it’s another close round that we narrowly have to give to SaferVPN. Either one has you covered with the basics, like automatic server selection and a kill switch. Both also feature a visual map interface for quickly and easily finding servers.

    Best VPN for iOS

SaferVPN’s iOS app is designed for simplicity and ease of use, with a one-tap-connect interface, so it comes forward as the winner. TunnelBear has the same quirky and fun design as its other apps, but it’s not as streamlined as SaferVPN. Both help keep you safe at all times with Wi-Fi protection and automatic reconnecting.

    Best VPN for USA

TunnelBear has a number of benefits to offer users looking for a US VPN. Firstly, it has more US and global server options if you need to change your IP address. Secondly, while it’s based in a 5-Eyes country, its audited no-logs policy means you can rest easy that you’re data won’t be handed over to the authorities. Thirdly, it’s the more reliable of the two for accessing US-based streaming providers.

    The Bottom Line

The best VPNs are those that show a genuine commitment to security and privacy without leaving any major loopholes and SaferVPN does just that. From its robust AES-256 encryption and OpenVPN protocol to its support for Bitcoin payment for added protection, this client takes online security seriously. While the speeds can be a bit shifty, features such as a kill switch, support for live chat, a 24-hour free trial, and Wi-Fi protection place SaferVPN at the top with some of the best VPNs on the market.

While it’s unfortunate that SaferVPN is no longer available, we would still recommend ExpressVPN over it even if SaferVPN was still active. ExpressVPN’s global server network dwarfs that of SaferVPN. It also gives users peace of mind with an audited no-logs policy and by being headquartered in a privacy-friendly jurisdiction. With incredible speeds and reliable access to all your favorite streamers, ExpressVPN should be the first on your list of VPNs to try.
