VyprVPN, ZenMate, and Ultrasurf are 3 very different services. Ultrasurf is technically not a VPN but promotes itself as anti-censorship software. Although Ultrasurf is free and okay for unblocking some geo-restricted platforms, it doesn’t have advanced security and privacy features. On the other hand, ZenMate (also offering a limited free version) provides a good level of security on its paid subscription, with 4,700 servers in 81 countries. It also unblocks many streaming platforms, including Netflix US, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video. VyprVPN is also an excellent option for security and getting around geoblocks, especially when using its Chameleon protocol to camouflage your VPN traffic. Find out which ones come out on top.

VyprVPN has been one of the best providers in the game for years. But, its parent company, Golden Frog, was recently purchased by a US entity. With VyprVPN no longer under Swiss jurisdiction, is it still one of the leading providers? After extensive testing, I still rank VyprVPN as a top choice. Even though it’s owned by a US company, it has a proven privacy policy that shows it doesn’t lo...

    Chameleon is Amazing

I tried CyberGhost, Express, and Nord VPN over the last month. None of these were able to get by my in... stitution's Fortigate Firewall doing Deep Packet Inspection scanning. They are using some sort of Obfuscation technique but they were not good enough. I read about VyprVpn's Chameleon protocol. YES... It worked !!!! I do have to sacrifice speed but at least I get outside access. When I am out of that environment, I switch back to Wireguard and the speed increases 300%. The price is great, their Live chat was great when I questioned their own DNS servers. They were easy to reach with the chat and took the time to explain how their DNS servers worked. I highly recommend VyprVPN !!!More

    I don't have time to...

The company behind VyprVPN, Goldenfrog claims to have taken steps to improve its reliability, security... , and quality of service. I'm not sure when they said this, however, in 2022, reliability and QoS are going downhill quickly. I've been using Vypr for over a year with the software installed and executing on each PC. Everything worked relatively well until about three months ago when I began experiencing frequent and intermittent connectivity issues. Thinking that my 10-year-old router might be the cause, I installed a new TPLink router with all the latest technology After many hours of side-by-side testing with two computers on the same LAN, I have observed that a PC with the VPN turned off had 100% connectivity while a PC using Vypr had the issues. I have adjusted Vypr to use various protocols and TAP adaptors with no success in improving the QoS. As such, I'm convinced that my PCs and LAN are operating as they should. Further, from the beginning, I configured Vypr to always connect to a server in Canada. Every time I boot my PC I use "whatismyip.com" to make sure that the PC is operating through the Vypr. About half the time it connects to a server in the USA and yet the software says that it is connected to Canada. I use a couple of business online services with geolocation services that require a Canada connection so I also know when Vypr connects to the USA when I am blocked from logging in to one of the business services. IT's really annoying when the software says it's connected to Canada and yet it is not. The biggest annoyance is that I now find I have to check my external IP every time I boot a device. Why should I have to do this? I've used other VPNs and they just worked all the time. I never had to keep checking them to make sure they are working correctly. I've also done security testing to make sure there are no IP or DNS leaks or any other issues and it appears that Vypr lives up to its reputation of being secure. If the service would operate consistently so that I don't have to always check it or disconnect and reconnect to force a Canada server, I could give Vypr 5 stars. Overall it's not a bad service, however, if the QoS continues to degrade, I may be forced to go back to one of the other VPNs that I've used. I don't have time to "handhold" VyprVPN.More

ZenMate has been a popular VPN for 10+ years, especially with its free browser extensions. It offers low prices and many appealing features like streaming servers and fast speeds. But none of this matters if it can’t keep you safe, so I decided to find out if it really can. After my tests, I can say ZenMate is a safe VPN offering great value. It works great for streaming, has fast speeds at cl...

    Good experience

No matter your location, using a VPN is important for your online security. I got ZenMate for exactly ... that and I am satisfied with it, especially when it constantly improves its service. Customer support helped me so much and I just wanted to say that I've asked for their help a few times. And every time the support was respectful and fast in their response time. Keep it up!More

    Buggy and Unreliable

Good when it works, with a limited number of available servers. However, 1. Does not always connect ... to the fastest server. 2. On the Mac, it does not automatically connect to a server. 3. On iOS, it does connect automatically BUT does not do so consistently. 4. The Mac app has been buggy and not connecting at all, FOR MONTHS. They still have not fixed it.More

Ultrasurf is one of the most popular 100% free website unblockers that assign you a unique IP address through a proxy along with a decent level of encryption. So, technically speaking, it is not a VPN. Instead, Ultrasurf recognizes itself as a simple anti-censorship tool. The main idea behind Ultrasurf was to provide regular internet users in mainland China with a free and reliable tool to cir...

Best but just for basic things

Because it's a VPN which is based in USA so it's difficult to trust on this 100%. My elders taught me...  that nothing is free in the world, if the service is free then you are the product to sale. My only one opinion to this VPN just use it for basics, it even doesn't need permission to access your device except "network connection", so it's literally safe but don't use for any sensitive stuff. By the way speed is great, without add and no use limit these elements make this one of the greatest free VPN of the world.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

VyprVPN wins because it has better apps and customizable settings on each of them. It also comes with its proprietary Cameleneon protocol, which helps make the VPN less detectable. Additionally, it owns its entire server network, so your data is more secure since there's no middleman.

    Best VPN for Torrents

ZenMate is the best choice for torrenting because it comes with servers optimized for downloading. VyprVPN is a close second as P2P activity is supported on all its servers. Ultrasurf's speeds are too slow and its security isn't the best for torrenting.

    Best VPN for Windows

VyprVPN’s Windows app takes the lead over its competitors. It’s very simple to use, yet highly customizable. ZenMate’s interface is also straightforward, allowing many adjustments, but only offers OpenVPN and IKEv2 protocols. This is still better than Ultrasurf, which offers no security features at all.

    Best VPN for Android

VyprVPN’s Android app is better as it includes split tunneling, a kill switch, VyprDNS, and many more security features. Also, it includes both the OpenVPN and Chameleon protocols. ZenMate, although quite easy to use and reasonably secure, is no match for VyprVPN. With a very bare Android app, Ultrasurf is the poorest choice.

    Best VPN for Mac

VyprVPN wins as the only VPN out of the three with advanced protection and features like a kill switch and split tunneling. While VyprVPN provides various security protocols (including Chameleon), ZenMate only uses the less secure IKEv2 protocol that you can't enable or disable yourself. Ultrasurf doesn’t even offer a macOS client.

    Best VPN for iOS

VyprVPN comes forward with a better app for iOS because it allows you to change a lot of settings. ZenMate doesn't offer any customizable settings and only shows the servers available. Ultrasurf offers a minimalist app with basically only an on/off button.

    Best VPN for USA

ZenMate wins because it has more US servers and more consistent speeds. VyprVPN is a close second. Ultrasurf only has servers in the US, but it’s slow and doesn't unblock most of the US streaming platforms.

    The Bottom Line

VyprVPN wins the match thanks to its strong security and privacy options. Even though the other 2 VPNs are also capable of bypassing geo-restrictions, VyprVPN’s Chameleon protocol makes it even easier. Compared to ZenMate and Ultrasurf (both based in not-so-private countries), VyprVPN’s strict no-logs policy and Swiss jurisdiction are great for user privacy.
