Astrill and OverPlay are two highly respected VPN providers that have been around for a while. Astrill offers a very reliable service with many advanced features like split tunneling, Onion over VPN, and a Stealth VPN protocol. OverPlay, on the other hand, delivers an exceptional service that features a built-in smart DNS and very fast server connections. While Astrill VPN has over 320 servers in 63 countries, OverPlay offers 650+ servers spread across 50+ countries. When it comes to refunds, only OverPlay offers a 5-day money-back guarantee. Astrill does not offer guaranteed refunds once you’ve used the 7-day free trial. However, customer support agents state that you can get your money back within a week of purchase if you’re a new subscriber and experience certain technical problems. Astrill and OverPlay both provide dedicated apps for Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android devices. Typical VPN essentials like 256-bit encryption, a kill switch, and support for P2P are also available with either of these VPNs. Read on to find out which of these VPNs is truly better.

Important. OverPlay has been acquired by StrongVPN. Current OverPlay customers now get all the features of StrongVPN. If you have any questions, you can contact StrongVPN's 24/7 support (via email or live chat). Reliable proxies will provide you with optimum security and anonymity with a fast, reliable internet connection. Most premium services that we recommend, such as ExpressVPN, will do just t...

Versatile and flexible, but poor technical support

I use several different devices, both for work and play, and with Overplay I can use my computer, my s... martphone and my tablet with the same VPN connection at the same time. Tech support, though, needs to improve, and I think a live chat support would make quite a difference.More

    Awful

Poor technical support. No refund after canceling. Unfortunately, I have to give one star. Subscribed ... for a month, then cancelled on their site after having many problems connecting. Didn’t get a refund , and after contacting them , they said none would be issued. Stay well away from Overplay. Many of my expat friends had the same problem . RipoffMore

Astrill VPN is one of the most popular VPNs to use in China. But it's also one of the most expensive VPNs available and doesn't have a money-back guarantee. With such a big investment, is it still the best VPN for China, and should you try it if you're located elsewhere? After my tests, I can confirm it's an excellent VPN for China but falls short in other areas. It offers slow speeds and clunky a...

Been using it for a long time.. but have to go

I have been using Astrill for more than 10 years. Never had a problem. A couple of times I used the ch... at for support and it was excellent. However this is probably going to be my last year. Reason .... price. With the virus crisis I am unemployed and can not afford it. They do not give any kind of discount and keep raising the price year after year. I am not in China so I suspend it, I do not need all those features.More

Don’t even think of it if you own Apple products

Worst VPN ever. Unreliable, unstable. It’s utterly expensive. Forget about streaming. Apple products a... re almost useless with it. Technical support team answers are pretty much like “Why don’t you turn it off and on?”. Please don’t waste your money as I did. They don’t even have a refund policy!More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

OverPlay delivers a fast service with a very large network and many innovative features that keep your online activity anonymous and help you bypass tough geo-restrictions worldwide. Astrill also provides a robust service overall, with a strong emphasis on advanced security features and cross-platform apps that are easy to use.

    Best VPN for Torrents

OverPlay is fast and efficient for downloading torrents anonymously without a trace. With Astrill, you will also have access to dedicated servers for P2P activities.

    Best VPN for Windows

OverPlay provides a very robust service for Windows, with a user-friendly app that allows unlimited server switching and has a built-in smart DNS. Some of the key strengths of Astrill’s service for Windows are its split-tunneling feature and Stealth VPN protocol.

    Best VPN for Android

If you need an Android VPN that includes a DNS service alongside features like unlimited server switching, a kill switch, and support for multiple encryption protocols, we recommend OverPlay. However, if you need features like split tunneling and Stealth VPN delivered via a user-friendly Android interface, choose Astrill.

    Best VPN for Mac

OverPlay for MacOS delivers an efficient VPN service via its dedicated app that features a built-in DNS, strong encryption, and obfuscation technology. Meanwhile, Astrill VPN includes strong encryption in an Android app that gives you access to dedicated IP addresses and Onion over VPN.

    Best VPN for iOS

OverPlay is an ideal iOS provider. The OverPlay dedicated app features wi-fi protection and unique obfuscation technology. Astrill competes with an iOS app that features access to leak protection, dedicated IP addresses, and a Stealth VPN protocol.

    Best VPN for USA

OverPlay uses Smart DNS and obfuscation technology to seamlessly unblock American websites like Netflix. However, you need to access Netflix from your computer browser, not the app, in order for it to work with OverPlay. Astrill is great for accessing American content from any location worldwide, as it provides dedicated servers that reliably unblock websites like Netflix and Hulu.

    The Bottom Line

While both VPNs provide a very good service, OverPlay’s provision of a combined VPN and Smart DNS service, money-back guarantee, and obfuscation technology are some of the key reasons why it wins this battle. OverPlay helps you effortlessly bypass very tough geoblocks and places almost no restrictions on your use. However, if you need a VPN for China, you might want to consider Astrill, which has proven that it can reliably bypass the Great Firewall.
