ExpressVPN is one of the most popular and trusted names in the industry. It’s known for being one of the safest, fastest VPNs around, so I wanted to see if it can live up to these claims. It’s not the cheapest VPN, but it often offers discounts that make it a better value for the money. Other decent VPNs offer similar security features for much cheaper. So, do you really need to pay that muc...

I've been an ExpressVPN customer since 2017 and it's been great: quickly connects to a nearby server i... n the Wash DC region, embedded shortcuts to apps I want to use while using VPN, disconnects quickly, has the kill switch feature which is necessary these days, and has a fine mobile app which works well on my Android phones and tablets. However, I was just notified that the annual price is jumping from $99 to $117 upon the next renewal, so it's time to see how the others compare within VPN Mentor.More

    Ok, but expensive

Seems ok, but I wouldn't say it's worth $20AUD a month. That's steep if you live in a backwater like A... ustralia, where the currency is not valuable. Easy enough to set up - you don't need to be Einstein - but unless you're a tech nerd who can take a look under the bonnet, you'll just have to trust what they say about their product. It frequently drops out without the slightest warning, often when it's the only thing online at the time - despite fast and flawless fiber internet, rendering expression entirely useless UNLESS you have it sitting on your desktop where you can keep an eagle eye on it to actually see it when it drops out so you can kick it back into service again (it doesn't do it by itself), which seems to defeat its purpose, so I'm taking away 2 stars for that. Support is good and they do get back to you as fast as they can.More

SaferVPN is merging with IPVanish, and it will no longer operate independently. Existing users will still be able to use their login credentials. Check out what IPVanish has to offer here.

    Terrible service

SaferVPN has terrible service. It is an Israeli-based company but for some reason, their Israeli node ... is missing for a while now. Their answer: "The Israel servers are under maintenance at the moment. It shall be back soon, I request you to please allow us some time." One has to wonder about a company that has no failover and takes weeks if not longer to bring up a server. If they had any competence or care, they could have brought up a new server within hours and a virtual one in half an hour. Gives you an idea of how bad they are. Stay away from this company and take your money somewhere else.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

SaferVPN places emphasis on protecting you at home and on public wi-fi, plus offers fast connections and access to leading streaming services. ExpressVPN has a slightly stronger no-logs policy and also gives you access to the most popular content providers while protecting against IP and DNS leaks.

    Best VPN for Torrents

SaferVPN has limited torrenting functionality, only recently offering P2P support in Canada, Spain, and the Netherlands. ExpressVPN provides more torrenting support by allowing torrents on all of its 2,000+ servers.

    Best VPN for Windows

You can use the SaferVPN Windows app to access its 700+ high-speed servers with unlimited bandwidth, 256-bit level encryption, and a single-click connection function. ExpressVPN supports only three devices per license, but gives Windows users a kill switch, range of connection protocols, and unlimited server switching.

    Best VPN for Android

Android users get access to a 7-day free trial with automatic public wi-fi security and unlimited bandwidth across 34 server locations with SaferVPN. Users like SaferVPN’s 24/7 in-app support, but some report that affiliate marketing networks can track you. ExpressVPN appears to block tracking services and networks on its servers, also providing high-quality 24/7 support, but has yet to add a kill switch to the Android app.

    Best VPN for Mac

ExpressVPN gives Mac users a kill switch, military-grade encryption, split tunneling, and high-speed downloads. Automatic configuration, a kill switch, automatic updates, and the ability to use multiple security protocols on favorited server locations.

    Best VPN for iOS

SaferVPN has strong ratings from users plus a 30-day money-back guarantee. You'll stay secure on public networks and have support for up to five simultaneous connections on the basic plan. ExpressVPN keeps your browsing, streaming, and torrenting on iOS private while giving you access to fast servers for great streams and reliable support at any time.

    Best VPN for USA

SaferVPN can avoid the geoblocks of Netflix, Hulu, and other major US services. ExpressVPN goes further thanks to servers that are some of the fastest we’ve tested and many US options to help you avoid being blacklisted and upholding a reputation for beating the most robust blocks.

    The Bottom Line

SaferVPN and ExpressVPN are two of the strongest VPN services around. Each offers 24/7 customer service and the option to pay with Bitcoin— a rarity in the VPN market — as well as commitment to top security functionality. ExpressVPN is an industry leader because it has thousands of servers in more than 90 countries and supports torrenting on every single one. Plus, ExpressVPN is able to bypass the Great Firewall of China. SaferVPN is growing in popularity thanks to a user-friendly design, unlimited bandwidth, 700+ fast servers, no logs, and good customer service, including Facebook messenger. The only real downside is limited torrenting and P2P functionality, but the price can make up for this concern.
