Germany-based ZenMate and US-based VPN Unlimited are two fast-rising providers known for their user-friendly apps and ability to unblock US Netflix. Both VPNs supply dedicated apps for MacOS, iOS, Windows, and Android devices and have strong encryption across all these platforms. These two providers also provide 7-day free-trials of their services, although ZenMate also offers a 14-day money-back guarantee, compared to VPN Unlimited’s 7-day return policy for new orders. Both providers support P2P activities, though in different ways. ZenMate allows torrenting on all of its servers, whereas VPN Unlimited offers dedicated P2P servers optimized for torrenting anonymously. The VPNs also differ in network size, with ZenMate maintaining around 300 servers in 30+ countries, compared to VPN Unlimited’s 400+ servers in over 70 countries. VPN Unlimited’s best features include advanced DNS leak protection and obfuscation technology. However, the lack of a kill switch in some of VPN Unlimited’s apps is a major source of concern. Read on to see which VPN conquers in this contest.

VPN Unlimited comes across as a very capable VPN, with its main focus being unblocking multiple streaming sites. I wanted to see if it delivered on this promise, and to test whether its security, privacy, and customer service stacks up against the best VPNs in the industry. While it certainly delivered on some of its assertions, unfortunately, it fell short in some essential areas. It unblocke...

    Very Happy with Lifetime license

I picked up a lifetime license and honestly, it's been "solid". It delivers at good speeds, no leaks ... so far have been detected. Offers a wide range of streaming options & Protocols. I've contacted customer service several times and received replies quickly. The servers for P2p are limited to three locations but are still very functional. I'd appreciate a public audit of how secure the service is but it seems none of this info is published for customers, or potential customers to view.More

    Definitely honey pot

Stay away, none of streaming services mentioned works, support may be courteous but will not solve pro... blems. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and others may work for a while but eventually your data will be sold to requesting parties and you get blocked.More

ZenMate has been a popular VPN for 10+ years, especially with its free browser extensions. It offers low prices and many appealing features like streaming servers and fast speeds. But none of this matters if it can’t keep you safe, so I decided to find out if it really can. After my tests, I can say ZenMate is a safe VPN offering great value. It works great for streaming, has fast speeds at cl...

    Good experience

No matter your location, using a VPN is important for your online security. I got ZenMate for exactly ... that and I am satisfied with it, especially when it constantly improves its service. Customer support helped me so much and I just wanted to say that I've asked for their help a few times. And every time the support was respectful and fast in their response time. Keep it up!More

    Buggy and Unreliable

Good when it works, with a limited number of available servers. However, 1. Does not always connect ... to the fastest server. 2. On the Mac, it does not automatically connect to a server. 3. On iOS, it does connect automatically BUT does not do so consistently. 4. The Mac app has been buggy and not connecting at all, FOR MONTHS. They still have not fixed it.More

    Best VPN by Category

    Best VPN Overall

VPN Unlimited has a widely respected service that features server presence in more than 70 countries and many useful security features. ZenMate also offers a reliable VPN service with many innovative features, strong encryption, and a decent number of servers worldwide.

    Best VPN for Torrents

VPN Unlimited restricts P2P activities to dedicated servers located in five countries, but still offers a quality service for downloading torrents anonymously. ZenMate also claims to allow torrenting on its servers, but has a clause in its privacy policy that may not be favorable to anonymous file sharing.

    Best VPN for Windows

You can rely on VPN Unlimited’s dedicated Windows app for most of what you might want in a VPN, including built-in leak protection, access to fast servers, and unique obfuscation technology. With ZenMate’s Windows client, you can expect an automatic kill switch, malware and tracking protection, and access to the provider’s entire network of around 300 servers.

    Best VPN for Android

VPN Unlimited offers a very secure service for Android users that features an enhanced kill switch (on Android 8 or later versions), access to hundreds of servers in 70+ countries, and a dedicated streaming feature. ZenMate competes with an Android app that features malware and tracking protection as well as a very user-friendly interface.

    Best VPN for Mac

One of the best things about VPN Unlimited for MacOS is that its dedicated app includes the provider’s proprietary obfuscation technology, which enables it to break through very tough geoblocks undetected. The app also features advanced DNS leak protection. ZenMate, however, competes with a robust MacOS app that features malware protection and a kill switch.

    Best VPN for iOS

VPN Unlimited provides an iOS app with a beautiful design and layout, DNS leak protection, and budget-friendly subscription pricing. ZenMate also offers a user-friendly app for iOS devices, and includes malware blocking and tracking protection as part of its core service.

    Best VPN for USA

VPN Unlimited offers dedicated servers for bypassing tough geoblocks on web services like Netflix and Hulu. Although its connection speeds are usually sufficient for streaming, VPN Unlimited also offers dedicated IP addresses for higher speeds at an additional cost. Meanwhile, ZenMate offers US servers that capably unblock Netflix-US but sometimes fall short with regard to speed.

    The Bottom Line

While both providers offer very competitive services, VPN Unlimited wins this contest by providing servers in more countries and more useful security features. It also has multiple subscription plans with varying prices to suit every budget. Additional services like its provision of dedicated IP addresses and personal servers make VPN Unlimited an even more attractive VPN provider. Nevertheless, shortcomings of VPN Unlimited’s service, such as the absence of a kill switch in some apps, mean that it does not fare as well when it goes up against top-level providers like ExpressVPN.
